Supporting local growers - no thanks!

I do my best to support our local economy and accept that this will be a bit pricier than buying supermarket goods- no mass production and better quality (one would hope) but less in packaging and transport costs.

However, I've just received an email inviting me to buy a box of produce from local farms. £7.20 for a dozen large eggs, £5.10 for butter, £2.40 for the smallest pot of cream and almost £3 for a small loaf of bread. I gave up looking at this point.

Lucky people who can afford to shop locally!

It isn't always the best quality either- I have given up shopping at the local grocers because its expensive and poor quality.

However, I don't think you can entirely blame them- the supermarkets have the monopoly on our food supply.

I d still try to support local growers and suppliers when I can though, though it is often a bit of a luxury like some locally made butter I bought, butter has become expensive anyway but this was very good and I would buy more but it is only sold at local craft and food fairs.

Gosh that is expensive! We are lucky enough to have a local smallholding near us which sells their fresh free range eggs for £1 for six. I do try to support local producers wherever possible, but farmers' markets and so on are getting quite expensive now.
