….and have come home wondering who decides what the next food flavour craze will be. I know most have been around forever forever but pistachio seems to be the new kid now.

Pistachio was always my favourite ice cream from years ago. Of late it appeared to have disappear only to reappear in Dubai Chocolate, not that I've ever tried any.

I much preferred the Neapolitan (pink, white and green) presumably Italian flag colours? to "chocopolitan" as it was known. Sadly the news got out that I like it, that stops further production in its tracks of anything...kidney soup, Cremola caramel dessert (like custard, caramel flavour),fishpaste, now even blancmange! sad

Salted licorice has not taken off here yet. I love it and is big in Germany/Austria and Scandanavia I believe.
I know it sounds weird but then I suppose salted caramel sounded weird to start with.

We are brought up and live on salted liquorice in Denmark I now buy my treble salted liquorice from Holland of Germany on line. Just love it. Tiger do sell some in their shops too.

Fine, if the real mac coy is added but I fear more E numbers and chemicals will be used to make the product more commercially viable. (Sorry I suffer from hidden allergies.)

Hot honey is everywhere at the moment!

Beechnut Fri 31-Oct-25 14:47:25

What about hot honey???? I even saw hot honey Jaffa Cakes!
Not for me as I hate spices.

I tried those a few weeks ago.

I’ve also seen a something done with hot honey on a local restaurant menu.

as a vegan I am glad there is more choice now. OH said that he has seen loads in the supermarket by us and yesterday there was some really good vegan Christmas fare in an email. I do have to watch the pennies but at the festive season I like to have something special for a treat; so far Tesco is looking favourable

Nannan2 Fri 31-Oct-25 14:16:25

Thanks Beechnut- i will look for that.😋

I remember the first time someone at work brought in a box of salted caramel dark chocolates and how exotic it was. Now one of my favourites. Not sure about the licorice though but I’d give it a try.

foxie48 Fri 31-Oct-25 07:07:53

Meant to say and it was very nice!

foxie48 Fri 31-Oct-25 07:07:06

We went out for lunch yesterday and I had a Dubai chocolate ice-cream

JamesandJon33 Fri 31-Oct-25 06:26:17

Patsy70 The Italian flag is red ,white and green…. Thus the original colour and flavour of Neapolitan icecream. Why pistachio was removed and chocolate substituted was probably due to cost.

LOUISA1523 Thu 30-Oct-25 23:14:17

Its the dubai chocolate influence

keepcalmandcavachon Thu 30-Oct-25 18:57:24

It'll make a nice change from salted caramel!

Beechnut Thu 30-Oct-25 17:47:20

I bought the pistachio and vanilla Vienetta. It was on offer with club card.

JamesandJon33 Thu 30-Oct-25 16:23:39

We bought some salted liquorice in Norway. Even DH a lover of liquorice thought it vile.

Patsy70 Thu 30-Oct-25 16:17:47

JamesandJon33. I remember the ‘neopolitan’ green, pink and white and much preferred it to the chocolate.

Babs03 Thu 30-Oct-25 15:26:18

Pistachio is nice but I find the flavour too subtle. Have seen Dubai chocolate but never bought it, is rather pricey imho.

I havent noticed that one.
Nor Dubai chocolate.

But have liked pulled pork and salted caramel everything.
So think the taste panels know a thing or two!

ViceVersa Thu 30-Oct-25 15:02:42

I have always loved anything pistachio-related too, so I'm loving the current trend for it as well.

JamesandJon33 Thu 30-Oct-25 15:00:58

I love pistachio also. Does anyone remember when Neapolitan ice cream was red, white and green. The green ( pistachio) now replaced by chocolate?
And talking of chocolate, Dubai chocolate seems to be everywhere.
