How many kinds of mince pies have you sampled so far?

I don’t have a lot of spare time but have been doing research, as I nobly do every year, in finding out which supermarket does the best mince pies.I don’t go in for any fancy schmancy ones with added this and that at exorbitant prices.
My findings this year after very many samplings is that Sainsbury are the best.😃I will carry on the good work tho as I haven’t tried Waitrose as yet.

I just don’t care about healthy.
They are worth it.

^Seriously mince pies are one of the most unhealthy foods you can eat- but I do love them.^

How do you work that one out, keepingquiet?

They're not exactly healthy, but 'one of the most unhealthy'? hmm

Not healthy????

Mincepies are a superfood. Dried fruit for vitamin C and some iron and other minerals. Animal fat, for supple skin and warmth, flour and sugar for calories and energy. Sometimes nuts (protein). Plenty of fibre for an active bowel.

Tenko

None , it’s November , too early

Tenko, with a name like that you surely know that life can take you prisoner at any moment, and for some, tomorrow will never come.

Sooner or later, we all reach our very last Christmas.

Please don't risk missing your very last mincepie.

I can polish my halo - mince pies are one of the few things I can refuse, in fact anything containing dried fruit gets a 👎 from me.

They look lovely Witzend 🥰 but I do need to sample a few if your DH leaves any.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 01-Dec-25 14:21:09

Those look delicious Witzend I am a decent enough cook, my roasts are demolished, my cakes enjoyed but I can’t make pastry and I have really tried.
Better for everyone for me to buy.

Witzend Mon 01-Dec-25 13:36:07

Just made my first batch of 24, not that they’ll last long, the way dh inhales them! For some years I’ve topped them with a star - they do come out tidier-looking than my lids ever did. Also they use less pastry!
These used up some of last year’s Delia mincemeat. I thought it might be a bit dry, but not at all.

So far, Tesco's "special mincepies with all butter pastry" are winning the contest.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 01-Dec-25 12:35:33

Well I’ve had loads but the best so far are Sainsbury’s with a Viennese whirl topping, bought for me by my GD on Saturday.
Only downside is only 4 in the box.

One of the many superstitions handed down to me by my mother was that it was unlucky to refuse a mince pie.
A good excuse for me.

Love it! 😂

I usually give a mince pie about 8 seconds in the microwave.

I find the pastry on supermarket ones too thick. However, I did buy a Co-op box of 6 for £1 yesterday. Turned them upside down and baked them in the air fryer. Like brown crispy bases. They were ok.

I am on my third box of mince pies and they are from Iceland and very yummy!

I’m vegan and the best with no animal products are Lidls basic. The filling is the old fashioned one . Not sold as vegan but are

Presumably no suet but otherwise the same?

NanaGill61 Wed 26-Nov-25 09:05:06

They are in shops now, we have already consumed one pack. Greggs are the best!

So, I enjoy and applaud your research
Yes, me too.

It's hard work, but someone has to do it, well done, Oreo!

vwaves Tue 25-Nov-25 21:46:06

Ooh I read another review which said Sainsbury's mince pies were the best. I will do a trip there to buy some as soon as I can! I usually wait til December to eat a mince pie. However someone bought me one in a cafe yesterday but with sponge on top. Not to my taste!!!

FranP Tue 25-Nov-25 21:44:19

Oreo - these are my favourite food EVER, (with hot cross bun a close second) but the doc has given me a weight loss ultimatum, and once I begin, it can be a box of 6 per day until I have tried them ALL.
I have a family of philistines who do not like either Christmas pudding or mince pies! (Clearly, I did not bring them up properly)

So, I enjoy and applaud your research. Thank you for sharing

The best I've had both last year and this year are Aldi all butter almond mince pies.... absolutely amazing!

Kathmaggie Tue 25-Nov-25 20:52:18

According to Good Housekeeping magazines blind testing team, Iceland luxury mince pies are the best for second year running. No - I haven’t indulged yet. X

ballie Tue 25-Nov-25 20:42:13

I have only tried one kind of mince pie in my lifetime and that is a mince pie.

Only had one so far, and it was in Greggs. Was quite good, and reasonably priced.

I agree, Greggs beat them all, not a supermarket though. Of the supermarkets I find the Co-op the best.

grannysyb Tue 25-Nov-25 19:59:51

We tried the small M and S ones, the pastry was soft, won't be buying those again! I will try others nearer Christmas.
