My latest discovery. Heaven in choux pastry, or as Nessa might say lush! Better than Marks, better than all the rest and as expected, cheaper too. Slight problem though, they're not always in there, in fact I've only just tumbled upon them, maybe they're just around at Christmas sad

Have you made any magnificent food discoveries lately ? Tell us about those.

I’m on an instagram page that highlights all the goodies in Aldi and Lidl, especially additive free stuff.

Maremia Fri 05-Dec-25 21:53:53

Heading out tomorrow to find some of these goodies.

TerriBull. I'm not sure, but I remember buying them for a long time after Christmas, as some of us are big choc orange fans. I've been making crystallised orange peel coated in dark chocolate for years for Easter and Christmas and it goes down very well with the family. Also pecan brittle, among other things.

Just looked it up "Yes, Waitrose's Chocolate Orange Frozen Profiteroles are typically a festive, seasonal item, appearing in their Christmas ranges for special occasions rather than being a year-round staple, though availability can vary slightly."

Best stock up! Wish I had an extra freezer. I think they're good value too.

TerriBull Fri 05-Dec-25 18:43:34

I meant to add I don't think Waitrose market them all through the year, a Christmas special maybe?

TerriBull Fri 05-Dec-25 18:41:53

Peaseblossom, I also bought the Waitrose ones you've mentioned last year, I saw them in there the other day. They were very nice and very handy to have in the freezer for the dried fruit pudding dodgers in my family. I'm beginning to feel profiterole obsessed now grin

Fresh Jane 43.

Last Christmas I discovered Waitrose profiteroles. They were delicious. Chocolate orange cream filling, chocolate coating with crispy sugared hazelnut pieces. Waitrose Chocolate & Orange Profiteroles 288g. At the moment £2.25 instead of £3.00. I managed to get them for ages after Christmas. They are frozen. Not looked for ages, because I couldn't find them, then I forgot about them, but having read this post, just checked and they are on their website. "Choux pastry profiteroles with a chocolate and orange flavoured filling, chocolate flavoured coating and topped with sugar coated toasted hazelnuts pieces." Ooh, ooh, ooh, I must buy some!

Are these fresh or frozen?

Aldi is fantastic! I personally know a member of the board in Aldi's head office in Germany. He told me that they constantly strive to adhere to their ethos of quality products at the lowest price possible. If only the other supermarkets thought this way, but sadly so many of us are seduced by flash packaging and snobbery ~ then whining that they can't make ends meet!

Aldi’s cherry liqueurs. Bought half a dozen boxes as part of hampers made up for family at Christmas. Have eaten them all. Now have to replenish and then summon enormous amount of willpower not to dig in again.

A lady after my own heart. I am not to be trusted with advent calendars. If, by some miracle, they stay intact until 1st December all the windows have been opened and the contents eaten by the 2nd. So what, life is short. grin

TerriBull Fri 05-Dec-25 15:42:49

Woe is me, I've been to Aldi, Alas no profiteroles today sad probably just as well, I only eat them, although I do try to ration myself to just two in one serving.

mistymitts Fri 05-Dec-25 15:08:41

FriedGreenRomatoes2 I but this whenever I see it and then just choo some spring onions into it and let them soften while heating and drink instead of coffee or tea. Very food for you.and better than most fresh soups.

Missiseff Fri 05-Dec-25 14:21:18

Mist of Aldi's food comes from the same factory as M&S, they just put it in different packaging grin

Aldi all butter mince pies are very nice too, box of 6 is about £1.50. Our Aldi has a bakery now, so I’m gradually testing their stock, very nice bread, and much fresher Danish than the soggy efforts at our local Tesco.

I haven't had chocolate liqueur for years. Cherry brandy being my favourite. no one in our family liked them so if one was gifted it would end up with me! being early teens i felt like I was a real boozer! i remember biting the neck of the bottle shaped chocolate and slurping the inner liquid then there would be a sugary layer to get through! its no good when I pack the food for our Festive holiday or rather a get away as apart from the food we do not really celebrate Xmas due to grown up mainly kids and grandkids and a lot of very sad painful memories. However back to the chocolates that must be something to go in the hamper!

I no longer own a pressure cooker Maw.
This broth has been simmered for hours. Just not by me.
A win, of sorts.

It was my ‘magnificent food discovery’ as Terribull asked.

Just not Christmassy. 😕

That looks great FGT - shows you don’t need to fill food with additives & chemical crap in order to mass produce it for supermarkets. I’ve no idea if £4 is a lot but everything seems to cost more now.

seasider Fri 05-Dec-25 01:04:58

Tesco sell Solidarnosc Polish cherry liqueurs. They are delicious

LauraNorderr Thu 04-Dec-25 23:35:09

Sorry if I was insensitive FGT, was only joking.
The broth looks great and I will give it a go.
Very important for himself, lots of goodness. X

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 04-Dec-25 22:26:53

Sainsbury’s
Tesco too. my daughter tells me.

I buy this from the supermarket in a pouch. All the goodness of a broth but without the faff. Not cheap at £4 but worth it for the goodness (and not having to boil up bones for hours!)

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Which supermarket? I do sometimes use a chicken carcass to make chicken broth, but can't always be bothered, so this bought broth would come in very handy.

Cadenza123 Thu 04-Dec-25 21:27:21

I bought some little packets of Friars chocolate salted caramels for the grandchildren. I made the mistake of testing them and now they have all gone! blush In my defence the grandchildren are all grown ups but still I'll have to find something to take their place.

Seriously FGT? You’re talking about healthy broth in the midst of profiteroles, cherry liqueurs and Black Forest gateau. How very dare you!

Oh sorry, yes. Of course you’re right LauraNorderr! I got carried away by a pouch of protein goodness for Himself. My mind was elsewhere. He can’t eat Christmas Fayre any more. I wasn’t thinking.

RosieandherMaw Thu 04-Dec-25 20:13:40

“ Bone broth “ which is certainly good for you can be made in under 45 minutes in my pressure cooker for the price of a packet of chicken wings (usually £1.50) an onion, a carrot and a couple of bay leaves! Alternatively the carcass from Sundays roast chicken. No faff, no work and a kitchen which smells wonderful.

LauraNorderr Thu 04-Dec-25 19:22:21

I know, I never learn. When my four boys were young I would buy their Easter eggs early but would always have to rush out on the Saturday to replace them.
Chocoholic, moi?
