Yes I did. I should check before I post. I've always known where my sons' dyslexia comes from.

I bought a veg box from Lidl today £2.00.
It has made a roasted tomato and red pepper soup, fruit salad, I have blanched and frozen chantenay carrots, there is a perfectly good 2kg bag of red potatoes, a bag of new potatoes and a bunch of celery that I will make soup with tomorrow.

Maybe before Christmas if I have the time.

Soup making is now on my to do list after Christmas!

I think to the supermarkets are taking the loss, not the farmers.

I believe that that is the case, on this occasion (my son-IL farms) but the concern is that consumers like those cheap prices and are reluctant to pay the going rate.

I repeatedly say there’s no such thing as cheap food. Someone pays, the farmer, the workers who pick/process it, the retailer or the consumer.

I always start off with onions and garlic. I just use a vegetable stock pot or cube. Then I often add something called Gunpowder spice blend, a mix of chilli, turmeric and other Indian spices. I like a bit of heat. You could add anything that takes your fancy though to suit your taste.

Onions are always a must for me in any soup. Red lentils are also a good addition to vegetable soup and I often add a little paprika.

My partner used to work in sales and he told me that then there’s a bogof offer it’s the often supplier that pays for it not the retailer; then again I assume that loss leaders are paid for by the retailers. Rack ends are paid for by the supplier.

Lidl are advertising theirs at 5p. I hope they have some left by the time we get there tonight. I want to make some soup too.

We got potatoes (large bag),carrots, parsnips and red cabbage 5p each. Veg soup is made and pickled red cabbage will be made today. Marvellous.
