Overnight oats fans?

I'm a late convert to these. I find myself actually looking forward to my tumbler of oats each morning. I tend to stick to just adding milk, greek yogurt, mixed seeds, blueberries and a swirl of fruit compote to the oats. I'm thinking about peanut butter and banana next for a change. Any other suggestions?

Does overnight oats mean raw porridge oats soaked in ? Milk ?fruit juice ? Yogurt?
I like my porridge well cooked with a sliced banana cooked in it , made with water , but a few spoons of plain yogurt on top

I use overnight oats topped with greek yoghurt and kiwi fruits and a few pumpkin seeds, lovely.

Try finely sliced banana and chocolate sauce with a dash of pink grapefruit or pineapple juice.

I use gluten free oats, a few chia seeds and some chopped dates. Like all the suggestions, will be getting more adventurous!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can never make it come out right, I like porridge, and other oat based cereals but I can never get it quite right. Has anybody got any step by step recipes that never go wrong that they can supply me with. No blueberries though please as since I started growing my own shop bought ones seem utterly tasteless.

I have recently started having Greek yogurt sprinkled with mixed seeds, blueberries, raspberries and drizzled with honey.
Delicious.
I didn’t think that would be a filling breakfast, but it is.
Will now buy the frozen mixed fruits as well.

I suggest buying Waitrose/ supermarket frozen berries as so much cheaper than fresh. Waitrose blueberries 3.50 yesterday! 😕

On a slightly different note, I buy the organic jumbo oats for my breakfast and was shocked recently to find them full of moths when I opened a pack, even though it had always been well sealed.

I add cooked apple to mine. I read that apple is one of the foods that is healthier after being cooked ( and I don’t really like eating apples for some reason, possibly because of my dodgy teeth) so I boil it up with a few blueberries and cinnamon. I add cocoa to it so I get my chocolate fix, too.

My daughter and teenage granddaughter love their overnight oats. Most of the above combos sound like the way they have them. This thread has inspired me to give it a try.

I remember many years ago I was on a coach tour to the west of Ireland with friends. The hotel served a delicious cooked breakfast and on the side was a table with cereals, fruits and a large container of porridge. Only one from our table of 6 opted for porridge the first morning .

On day 2 there was a queue at the porridge pot once word was out there was a help yourself jug of double cream next to it and guess what else. A bottle of Irish whiskey for anyone who fancied a nip in their porridge 🥃

Thanks. I'll look out for it. I've always enjoyed food featuring miso in restaurants but never known what it looked like to buy. Now I hear there are differents types!! So much to learn.

This one seems to be available all over...

But there are lots of different ones, different flavours.
I tend to have a couple of different ones open at once as we like different flavours/intensities.

I think it's usually in the "world food" aisle - but I admit to usually buying online as part of a bigger shop.

Re miso. What does it look like on the supermarket shelf? What dept is it in? Sorry to be so thick but I just don't know.

It usually comes in smallish jars or pots and is usually beside the Oriental foods - soy sauce, chilli sauce, etc.

Keepcalm - overnight oats is,to me just Bircher Muesli (as you may have had years ago) - but with (usually) fewer fruits.

My son used to like to make it for the family at the weekend when he was a teenager - he used pinhead oats with lots of grated apples in and lots of almond flakes and lots of raspberries.
It needed extra apple or pear juice to swell the oats.
He used to mix in cream for "special days" such as birthdays but otherwise it would be yoghurt.

He also put a spoon or two of honey or maple syrup in.

Frankly it was very expensive for 7 of us!
...but delicious.

Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Waitrose, Ocado, Dolphin Fitness - pretty much everywhere stocks miso now.
You used to have to buy in bulk or from a wholefoods type shop.

I like the darkest miso on porridge (which I prefer made with water).
Yum.

Been having overnight oats for decades. My fave is oats with raspberries and 100% fat free greek yoghurt. Frozen raspberries are great but strawberries are awful in this. Fresh mango is lovely but frozen are yuk.

I buy my yoghurt in Aldi or Lidl in a big pot with pink lettering. Much, much cheaper and nicer than other shops like Tesco.

Thanks ViceVersa. I'll definitely try that. Now what about more savoury flavours? I can't quite face putting grated cheese in. I'm open to miso but don't know how to find any. Does it come in jars or bottles or similar. I've not spotted it on sale anywhere.

How do you do cherry bakewell?

Usual base with the oats, yogurt, milk (seeds if you want them), then I add a layer of cherries (fresh, frozen, compote - whatever you have, even cherry jam would work) and a few drops of almond essence, topped with some flaked almonds.

I agree Chocolatelovinggran. I could never stand porridge as the warm claggy texture was nauseating. However, cold slightly crunchy oats with lovely fruit and greek yogurt is delicious.

It has conquered my lifelong antipathy to porridge. I discovered that it was the warm milk that was the problem.
I have mine with blueberries and a tiny sprinkle of granola for the texture.
