Cinnamon in a blueberry pie??

I’ve only made one once before and forgot to print out the recipe, but so many of the recipes I found the other day include cinnamon!

Is it me, or why on earth would you put cinnamon in a blueberry pie? The recipe I used before certainly didn’t contain any - just blueberries, sugar, lemon juice and cornflour - and the pie was delicious.

The one I’ve made this morning contains the same ingredients so I hope it’ll turn out as nice.

PS, the pair of crows that often visit certainly appreciated the scraps of leftover pastry!

Interesting concept, however, Witzend...

I use cinnamon in my cooking frequently, but I'm not sure about adding it to a blueberry pie.
Maybe try a tiny pinch of it with some blueberries, which you've separated .
I love blueberries with lemon and sugar .
I can't imagine the flavour being enhanced by cinnamon .

I wouldn't have thought of adding cinnamon to a blueberry pie so I've just asked Google AI if it's necessary. The answer was that cinnamon adds a subtle, warm flavour but you can leave it out and use lemon to enhance the flavour. So, as we thought, it's optional. Carry on as you always do, Witzend grin

A big no from me.

I like cinnamon in fruit cakes and apple based recipes…….but wouldn’t pair it with blueberries. Actually, I only like blueberries in their raw state, same as bananas and strawberries……….cannot abide banana bread or strawberries in a pie 🤮🤮

I add stewed apple, cinnamon and blueberry to my overnight oats, but that’s more to do with the apple than the blueberries. I always buy Ceylon cinnamon which is safer than non Ceylon and add it to tea bread and banana bread; supposedly it counts as part of your five a day. I did read that blueberries have a lot of pesticide on them and need to be washed but I can’t really do that as I either use dried ones or frozen ones. I add cinnamon to my turmeric lattes too.

I have ground cinnamon and fresh blueberries on my porridge and muesli, I think I’d like it in a blueberry pie! But I do love cinnamon.

Apparently cinnamon is one of those spices you love or loath with no in between There is something specific in it but can’t for the life of me remember what it is I can’t stand the taste

I don't mind cinnamon but I'd go along with Esmay, I think lemon would be better - assuming they were fully ripe and not sharp to start with.

I hate cinnamon. I think lemon would be a much better flavour to enhance blueberries.
When eating out I always have to ask whether any dessert with apple has cinnamon in it (or cloves which I also dislike). So many do and I’m really pleased if I get unadulterated apple!!!

Maybe a pinch in the pastry, but I wouldn't have put it with the fruit.

Mojack26 Sun 22-Mar-26 20:07:24

Just leave it out then! Simples...🤣
