Does Ginger Tea Make You Feel Better When You're Sick?

Whenever I feel run down and come down with a cold or a cough, I usually lose my appetite. On days like that, I keep things simple- a warm cup of ginger tea, plenty of fluids, and as much rest as I can get.

I don't think of ginger tea as a cure, but I do find that a warm drink can be soothing when my throat is irritated and it really helps me feel a little more comfortable in recovery.

Do you have a favorite drink or home remedy when you're dealing with a cold or sore throat?

Ginger works for me if feeling nauseous

When I was pregnant with my first child and suffering with morning sickness, my doctor advised me to have a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit before I even got out of bed. And it did work!

Ginger in any form helps me with nausea. For colds and the like it’s honey, lemon and glycerin for me.

No I don't like anything with ginger in it but it obviously helps some.

Yes it works for me either ginger tea or a ginger biscuit if I’m having a dizzy spell.

I just adore ginger in any shape or form and it always helps my tum. "Belvoir"cordial is excellent in ginger brand btw on a hot day and you can make it strong.

I think ginger is renowned for alleviating sickness, I think I remember drinking ginger tea and having a ginger biscuit or two when I had ongoing nausea in the early stages of pregnancy.

I do like ginger anyway.

Me too, Wyllow3, but didn’t know about Belvoir cordial so I’ll be trying that!

I have this with sparkling water in the summer for a refreshing drink, or with hot water in the winter or when feeling poorly. Lovely stuff.

I love ginger as well and have a jar of ginger in syrup in the cupboard. I must get it out and use it up.
Yes ginger honey and lemon is lovely for a cold. And a warm ginger wine with a touch of whisky is a great comfort as well.

I was given it when I was pregnant and sick I didn’t find it made any difference
I like the taste of ginger though and love ginger beer

I love ginger in anything but whenever I feel sick/ill find that Indian tonic water is pretty good.

Ginger is my ‘go-to’ when I’m feeling under the weather. Fresh ginger brewed in hot water with honey and lemon when I have a cold coming on, or, yes, another thumbs up for Belvoir ginger cordial as a pick me up.

Tkmaxx do some lovely ginger sweets in individual wrappers so I can pop some in my bag if ever I am a back seat passenger.
Pukka are very good for their teas.
Their 3 mint teas are good for indigestion

My son’s Pancreatic Cancer nurse recommended anything with ginger in it for feeling sick and horrible tastes after chemo. He says it does help a bit.

Witzend Fri 07-Aug-26 11:10:50

I like Pukka’s 3 ginger tea anyway, feeling rough or not.

I find either ginger tea for a headache or peppermint tea for digestive problems work well for me.

As a nutritionist, I can see why the nurse recommended ginger. It has some antioxidant properties and can be helpful for nausea. If it’s giving him some relief, that’s a good thing. Wishing your son all the best.
