Desserts, disappointing 😕

We usually bring our friends back to ours from a meal out, and I make/ buy two puds to choose from and coffee.Then friends do the same for us next time.

Great idea 👍🏻 how much would four puds & coffee cost?

There was a point )in the 90's maybe) when the desserts on the trolley looked heavenly but didn't live up to their looks, taste-wise.
Agree most buy in desserts now. Many people don't have them, so having a pastry chef isn't really viable for most eateries.

Yes desserts are way overpriced for what they are. Usually the options are - cheesecake, chocolate brownie, apple pie, apple crumble (fruit can differ), and ice cream (sometimes called a sundae) all desserts except the ice cream come with the option of ice cream or cream.
I wonder if this lack of effort by restaurants when it comes to desserts is because more diners today don’t eat dessert,but the prices for the portions they serve up certainly don’t reflect this lack of effort.
Another reason not to order dessert I have found is that despite these desserts already being made it can take an age for them to be served.
At home we can eat my homemade cherry Bakewell cake, or lemon drizzle cake. Both family favourites.

I've noticed that desserts in restaurants are now suffering from "shrinkflation" . The mini desserts with a coffee are a waste of money.

I begrudge paying the hefty price of a pudding. Thankfully I am usually full.

No you're not alone, it's one of my favourite sketches, along with "two soups"

A lot of restaurants buy in the puddings.

I rarely order a pudding when we are out, at home our favourite is sticky toffee pudding, I steam them in dariole moulds and serve with extra thick double cream.

Totally agree. You can often guess what will be on the Dessert Menu without even looking at the menu. There are often just 5 or 6 choices and three of them involve chocolate which I'm not keen on. You could buy a large tub of ice cream for the price they charge for a fee small scoops. I know they have to pay staff and overheads but as you say the portions are so small for the price. I literally needed a magnifying glass to see the last portion of cheesecake I ordered and it was so bland it had no relation to the supposed flavour.
