What fanfare would you walk into ?

Heard this on local radio last night.

If you were walking into a room on a special occasion what fanfare would represent you as a person, not necessarily a favourite song but something that linked to you. Here are 3 examples from the programme.

Don't bring me down by ELO

Theme tune to Steptoe & Son !

Dancing Queen by Abba

I will put my mind to what fanfare I would have, but over to you now.

Blinko, I'm with you, "A Whiter Shade of Pale".
Requested a (purely instrumental version) to walk down the aisle.
Unlike the Man from Del Monte, Vicar said "No"
No women clergy in C of E in those days!

Pacobel's 'Canon'. It makes me think of a summer day.

Definitely The Goons singing "The Ying Tong Song".

No doubt about it.

Something grand by Queen... Barcelona or Inuendo.
Or maybe, We Are The Champions.

Is there such a thing as - just a piece of music ?

GabriellaG Thu 24-May-18 10:38:00

Also
Gwahoddiad and Land Of My Fathers.
I love rousing music.

David1968 Thu 24-May-18 10:36:41

Maryhoffman27, I know your lovely book and have read it in school!

Sheilasue Thu 24-May-18 10:34:41

I would have the music from Elvis concerts think it was space oddesy.

David1968 Thu 24-May-18 10:34:11

"Fanfare for the common man". (Though I'm a woman!)

Blinko Thu 24-May-18 10:25:54

A Whiter Shade of Pale, Procul Harum.

It actually happened to me once and was Amazing Grace played by an orchestra as I had written a children's book of that name and this was at the opening night of the play.

Sugar Baby Love - Rubettes

Juggernaut Thu 24-May-18 10:12:46

My Fanfare would be 'Majesty' preferably played by the Band of the Lifeguards.
To shuffle off this mortal coil though, I want to enter to Meredith Brooks' 'Bitch', followed by The Prodigy's 'Firestarter'!

Lighten up, Grandma70s!

A few bars of the Hallelujah Chorus would suffice for me! grin.

Most of these pieces aren’t fanfares (typically a short ceremonial piece for brass instruments), but just pieces of music. I only know two fanfares, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and Britten’s Fanfare for St Edmudsbury. Both good, but I really don’t want to walk into anywhere to a fanfare of any sort.

I was at a gathering of a group of clergy recently and there was a group there called Epiphany (classical musicians) who did 'sound portraits'. You sat in an easy chair for 15 mins or so and they improvised music that they felt summarised your soul/personality. It was singly, one of the most moving experiences of my life... and they gave out a cd of the music too. So, I would have that!

Nan I think the song for Trump would be the Carly Simon one ‘You’re So Vain’ but what would he choose himself?
Hmmmm, perhaps the ‘I want it all, I want it now!’ One?

pen50 Thu 24-May-18 09:44:31

Another vote for Fanfare for the Common Man here - and I would go for the Emerson Lake and Palmer version followed by their take on Copland's Hoedown.
