There were only 4 lines in the puzzle! I didn't ask for the 8th line, I asked for the answer to line four.? It wasn't intended to be a sequence. It was a bit sneaky. Sorry!

callistemon and I both got 51 days (so we get double cakes right?)
But where does the 40 come from (I’ve had a drink so explain slowly)
My logic (not two words I usually use in the same sentence ?) was 4 x 1 +1 = 5 2x5+2 =10 etc so 8x11+8 = 96
Maths not being my strong point (waiting to find out what is) please explain the 40.

Callistemon, I know where you are coming from, but this puzzle has only 4 lines.

If it was to be a sequence, that would absolutely be correct and would have said so.
I too overthink and tend to look for more than is asked.
However, I never said it was a sequence.

As I'm in an argumentative mood I still think 96. Because 40 seemed far too easy, I tried to look at it logically and realised that the numbers read vertically go in sequence but that some are missing, so i filled in the gaps and got 96.

1 + 4 = 5
2 + 5 = 12
3 + 6 = 21
4 + 7 = 32
5 + 8 = 45
6 + 9 = 60
7 + 10 = 77
8 + 11 = 96

Am I over-thinking these?

Unless, of course, they have been rustled and are now in someone's freezer. But even then, theoretically, they still belong to the farmer and not to the rustler. That's theft, that is.

It would take 51 days. If the number of flowers doubles every day, half the garden would be full the day before, on the 51st day.
