Some of the limericks on the Gransnet threads are really good and worthy of publication I think .
Some don’t keep to the rules. I know games are for enjoyment and it’s all about the taking part but I wondered if anyone else would feel like me ? Could we have a thread of limericks which stick to the 88558 syllable rules ?
I hope it’s not out of order to suggest this. What do gamesters think? AIBU ?

Though syllable counting is tough
We spout out less verse off the cuff
It disciplines us
But please don't cuss

If we are not perfect enough.

I love a young sailor from Perth
Who longed to be able to surf
With only one leg
He’s called Jake the peg

I love a young sailor from Perth
Who longed to be able to surf
With only one leg
He’s called Jake the peg
I fear he’s not long for this earth!

He'd broken his tooth

Who always had gum in his mouth
He'd broken his tooth
In his misspent youth
In a fight on a trip to Louth

You know the type - she had lots of class
Her father was rich

There he'd met a pretty young lass
You know the type - with lots of class
Her father was rich
But there was a hitch

There he'd met a pretty young lass
You know the type - with lots of class
Her father was rich
But there was a hitch
For the girl had suitors en masse

You’d think he’d become downhearted
Instead, to woo her he started
With flowers and crocs
Silk dress in a box
And a date was fixed before he departed.
