Welcome to the Fourth Thread, Questioners and Answerers!

Are you feeling Autumnal?

BBbevan Tue 07-Dec-21 14:19:05

No as we don’t have a dog. Our neighbours walk their’s though.

We have a lot of trees around us. Would that worry you in a storm?

Mollygo Tue 07-Dec-21 12:49:52

Sorry, forgot a question.
Do you walk your dog in these high winds? Ours cowers on the front step reluctant you move.

Mollygo Tue 07-Dec-21 12:47:11

Bike, but not in this wind! I tried an electric scooter-that was fun!

hollysteers Tue 07-Dec-21 12:06:11

Not really scared, but bothered about any damage.

What is your favourite mode of transport? Car, boat, train or plane?
(Train)

henetha Tue 07-Dec-21 09:58:00

We're having vegetarian as my son and his partner will be here and they are veggies. I might buy myself a little ham or chicken for Boxing Day.

Do you ever feel slightly scared during storms? Heavy rain and strong wind here this morning and I feel edgy.

AGAA4 Tue 07-Dec-21 09:40:15

I just have a little tree and some candles. The Christmas cards are like decorations too.

Do you have turkey, other meat or a vegetarian Christmas dinner?

Billybob4491 Tue 07-Dec-21 08:05:03

Yes my Christmas jumper.

If you live alone, do you put up Christmas decorations?

BBbevan Mon 06-Dec-21 18:09:48

Christmas morning and then small presents after lunch. We have done this for years. My parent’s started it.

Do you wear something special on Christmas Day?

biglouis Mon 06-Dec-21 16:52:47

I love the pudding but cant be bothered with faffing around with brandy etc. I am not really a foodie.

Do you open your presents (or your children's presents) on Chrisrtmas Eve or Christmas day? Or some other day?

Mollygo Mon 06-Dec-21 14:27:30

Yes, lentils. I used to love them in all sorts of dishes, but now they make me ill.

If you have a Christmas pudding, do you ever pour lighted brandy over it? My children and grandchildren love the moment -even those who don’t like to eat it.

henetha Mon 06-Dec-21 13:18:59

The Salvation Army does a lot of good work and I like to support them, particularly at Christmas.

I can't understand why I've gone off coffee in such a big way.
Do you ever 'go off' any food or drink, for any reason?
Suddenly you can't bear it?

AGAA4 Mon 06-Dec-21 11:46:46

I prefer just a few decorations. I don't like being overwhelmed with loads of them.

Is there a charity that you think of at Christmas time especially. Mine are the charities for the homeless. A miserable time of year for them.

hollysteers Mon 06-Dec-21 11:40:37

The house completely redecorated.

I dislike Xmas wreaths on doors (find them morbid)
Are there Xmas decorations/traditions you don’t like yourself!

BBbevan Sun 05-Dec-21 18:24:00

I don’t have a work place anymore as I am retired. DH is the only one in my home/ workplace and we don’t buy each other presents.

If money were no object what would you like for Christmas?
I dad my engagement ring from DH’s Grandma, and I lost it years ago. I would very much like a similar one .

biglouis Sun 05-Dec-21 16:27:12

Sorry about the triple posting!

biglouis Sun 05-Dec-21 16:26:43

I have a policy not to buy new things (especially technology) while they still work. I had a TV for years that was NOT widescreen until it developed a fault. I also had a spin dryer for 20 years! It annoys me when I have to buy a new phone or tablet because the older software will not run.

Do you buy presents for people in your workplace?

Seen lots of threads about that on Mumsnet. Rather than buying your colleagues a lot of chap tat they dont really want or need it would be better to donate to a homeless charity or foodbank for people who have nothing.

Lockdown made me look at things as much as saving the planet. My trainers, which I bought in France in 2018 and walked in, everyday during lockdown, are still not worn out now, though they look tired on top. If we’d gone on holiday, I’d probably have bought new ones in 2020 because I wanted them to look good.
What about other things? Any more thoughts?

henetha Sun 05-Dec-21 11:52:15

I agree, In The Bleak Midwinter is very beautiful. Also,
We Three Kings of Orient Are.
But for joyfulness, then, Hark The Herald Angels Sing.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas always makes me cry.

My winter boots never seem to wear out. How justified do we feel these days about buying new things even if we don't really need them?

DanniRae Sun 05-Dec-21 11:43:42

My favourite carol is"In the Bleak Midwinter" and favourite song is "Driving Home for Christmas" - It reminds me of when my daughter lived far away and was indeed driving home for Christmas.

Have you got a favourite carol?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sun 05-Dec-21 11:21:32

I hate Somewhere Over The Rainbow too hollysteers.

I tend to think over purchases before I make them but still make the odd mistake.

Have you a favourite Christmas song which you adore?

nanna8 Sun 05-Dec-21 05:41:46

Frosty the snowman

Are you an impulse buyer?

hollysteers Sun 05-Dec-21 03:06:03

A small table top artificial tree now widowed and DC grown (although here for Xmas)

Which very popular song everyone seems to like do you hate?
(Somewhere over the rainbow)

biglouis Sat 04-Dec-21 23:25:02

I once had a go at growing plants from apricot and plum seeds but it was not a great success.

Do you have a real or an artificial tree - or no tree?

Ive never had a tree since I left my parents house at 22. I would never have a real tree. Poor things dont deserve to be killed.
