I've been on GN about 3 years and I agree it has become more serious. Understandable with all the negative things that have happened over the last few years. I do miss the fun though.

Do you ever feel nostalgic about pre pandemic times when there was no war in Ukraine or cost of living crisis?

Not really, I’ve gone off fiction for some reason.
I do really like Roald Dahl’s short stories for adults, many of which were featured in Tales of the Unexpected.
If (God forbid) DH has to go into hospital, I’ll pack a collection of them in his hospital bag.
Short stories are good when you are stressed and can’t concentrate for long.

I’ve been here nearly two years.

Years ago, a suspender belt snapping and my stockings and belt landing around my ankles whilst getting off a bus.
Lots of others too, some worse, but relegated to the “Do not open” box in my brain. ?

Do you ever read short stories as a change from a novel?

Few nice ones , although about 4 years ago went on a cruise with my daughter, started from Sydney Australia, visited a few islands in the Pacific, so beautiful & lovely

What was your most embarrassing moment ?

Wish I could help but I have the same problem with my hostas

What was you favourite foreign holiday destination?

Sorry Bears breeches / Acanthus

We have an IKEA dishwasher. Cutlery is put in horizontally. Excellent idea.

We have masses of tiny snails in our garden They eat the ‘Bears-breeches’ to nothing. What would you do.?

It depends who stacks it. One of us puts handles in first, the other the blades and tines go in the basket. All very sharp knives are laid flat on the ledges at the top.

What do others do? Same again please?

I walk him early as it is the coolest time.

Do you stack your cutlery upside down in the dishwasher?

I don't have any pets but I worry about the dogs I see being walked about in these temperatures. I can tell they are struggling. I wouldn't want to be out in a fur coat.

If you have a dog do you walk him/her early or late in this weather?

Its bearable here in the north so none of those things. Just working on the computer (with very few clothes on) and the door bell de-activated. Going for a snooze soon.

If you have furry pets (dog/cat etc) what do you do to help them cool down this weather?

I cant think of anything apart making sure they have plenty of cold water and a dark place to go and lie down.

Yes. I had a very bad ferry crossing from Roscoff to Plymouth back in the early 1990's. There was a storm and a very rough sea yet we still sailed; I was puzzled why at the time!. We had booked a cabin, and I was having a shower and vomited in the shower, then slipped on it and laid there covered in vomit and feeling terrible. Luckily my partner heard me and came to my rescue, washing me off and cleaning the shower.

What are you doing in today's heat? Cold showers? Eating lots of ice-cream? Going swimming?

Love caravan holidays, all my parents could afford when we were children. I’ve since had many caravan holidays with my own children & latterly grandchildren. They’re so cosy!!

No, but once when we were camping in Normandy and there was a weather warning of very high winds the site owner gave us a very small caravan for the night - the wind howled and DH thought he felt it rock about a bit so it wasn't a very restful night.

Once, on a cross-Channel ferry there was a bad storm and it lurched about a bit. A few customers in duty free screamed. Have you ever been in this situation?

No clothes, but a nightie at the ready if we have visitors. Wouldn’t want to scare them.

Have you ever had a caravan holiday? I had lots when a child. Love the sound of rain on the roof.

I find that I need to get up 1 or 2 times for a wee on an average night. Usually around 4ish. There must be something about that time.

Do you ever sleep with no clothes on in this hot weather?

I have never worn clothes in bed since I became an adult no matter how cold it is.

I sit up to read in bed, then lay on my right side with a big pillow between my knees.
Do you wake up a lot in the night? I get up for a wee about 4 ish then usually go back to sleep ok, but not always.

I lay on my left side to read then turn onto my right side to sleep, usually wake up on my back though.

- I do my reading while on my right side, then turn bedside lamp off and then literally, turn over, throw my right leg over a pillow and sprawl - that’s my sleeping position ?

Only very occasionally. Long ones.

A few years ago Prince Charles was opening a new ward in a nearby hospital. A friend of mine worked there and tipped me off but not many other people apparently knew. So when he arrived there were a few members of the hospital staff and me!
So I got a close up view of him - he has a very ruddy face!

When I was in my 20s I used to enjoy parties and chatting to people. I used to hog invitations and even gatecrashed a few. Later (from 40s onwards) I just found all that standing around with a glass of cheap wine a bit of a bore. I would rather avoid crowds of people now.

Have you ever seen a member of the royal family close to?

Princess Diana visited the uni where I was doing my Ph.D. so she walked right past me. She was wearing a tartan suit and very elegant.

That’s a laugh !! I mean, my legs! Skinny, hairy, eczema marks , so, No !

When you were young, were you the life and soul of every party? Or were you happy to just to take backseat view. I was, but now, would rather stay at home and read a book or watch Netflix
