Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

Mollygo Fri 14-Oct-22 22:08:49

Lincoln biscuits, border fruit shortcake or digestive biscuits.

Are you a cream biscuit or a plain biscuit eater by preference?

biglouis Fri 14-Oct-22 21:32:00

What is your favourite biscuit to have with tea or coffee ?

Ginger or rich tea.

biglouis Fri 14-Oct-22 21:30:27

It would be the day in November 1979 I had my last long conversation with my grandmother. We often used to sit crocheting or sewing and talking. Her hands were never idle. She died suddenly a few weeks later. There is a haunting song by Bob Dylan which ends

"Ten thousand dollars at the drop of a hat, Id give it all gladly if our lives could be like that."

Same question please.

Same here Biglouis, the microwave is my best friend.

If you could have just one day back in your life what would it be and why - nothing too personal.

ginny Fri 14-Oct-22 18:20:09

I still cook a meal. I’m worth it smile

I had coffee with my DD this morning at a local cafe. We were given some lovely thin crisp ginger biscuits with it.

I dont walk as I have mobility issues.

Do you bother cooking a full meal if there is only you at home?

I just shove something in the microwave to heat up.

Mollygo Fri 14-Oct-22 11:40:36

Yes- walking the dog is the best exercise. Aquatic exercise is a whole body thing which has toned my body and especially my arms.
Otherwise raising and lowering a cup of tea or a book is the best I can do.

If you like walking, does the rain put you off or do you just wrap up and go?

henetha Fri 14-Oct-22 10:25:25

A bit of both I think.. I love being at home, - but not too much. And I'm enjoying going out a lot at the moment, now my car is fixed and I've had my covid booster.

Do you do any regular exercise or take part in any sport, even if it's only darts?

hollysteers Thu 13-Oct-22 20:20:07

Just close family. Avoided in-laws palaver for Christmas itself but travelled south each year for New Year to see them (and the sales..)

Are you an indoors or outdoors sort of person?

biglouis Thu 13-Oct-22 13:10:11

My attitude is very ambivalent. On a business level I love it because I run online shops. On a personal level I hate it, especially the cheesy songs and adverts.

Do you have a big family gathering for C or an intimate one?

I just hide away and pretend it doesnt exist.

DanniRae Thu 13-Oct-22 07:52:59

Definitely not! But love seeing other people's gardens decorated for Christmas smile

Do you enjoy all the 'build up' to christmas? In the main I do.

MrsKen33 Thu 13-Oct-22 05:00:01

Walking mostly. We live very near a coastal path ,so lovely walks.

I went into a shop yesterday and they had all the Christmas lights out. Polar bears, penguins, deers, fauns. Would you ever buy one of those large animals for your front garden?

hollysteers Wed 12-Oct-22 22:04:57

Organise the house after being widowed. Declutter.

What exercise do you take?

Lomo123 Wed 12-Oct-22 22:03:57

Ha yes every year! Love after eights. Got 4 tubs in cupboard, trying to resist temptation.
What would you like to change most about your life?.

SachaMac Wed 12-Oct-22 21:27:15

I usually buy a box of After Eight Mints or mint Matchmakers at Christmas. Quite enjoy an After Eight Mint with a nice coffee. Not tried the orange ones.

Do you buy a big tin or tub of sweets such as Quality Street for Christmas and do you ever start scoffing them before the big day.

biglouis Wed 12-Oct-22 21:16:28

Ive never heard an ice cream van where I live for years. However my favorite is pistaccio.

Have you ever bought after 8 mints or similar? I enjoy the orange flavour.

crazyH Wed 12-Oct-22 18:38:07

I’ve got a hallway light, which is on day and night - low voltage.

The ice cream van was here just 5 minutes ago. I felt like having a cone. By the time I put my shoes on, he had left ?. Does the Van come round your way ? If so, what do you usually have ?

henetha Wed 12-Oct-22 18:17:43

I'm not keen on coffee but a cappuccino is ok occasionally.
I prefer a nice hot chocolate any time.

Do you put your lights on early or sit in the twilight for a while? It's almost dark now and I've just lit two candles, just for a while.

ginny Wed 12-Oct-22 17:13:21

No, not something I fancy. I like to read books at my own speed. Although many book clubs that I know of spend ten minutes discussing the book and then on to other ‘ business’ smile

I don’t drink much coffee but I enjoy a good latte occasionally.
What is your favourite type of coffee drink ?

MrsKen33 Wed 12-Oct-22 17:08:08

Candles bought, and wood for the wood burner. We can cook on that if needs be. But I do feel a weariness and a sadness about all this. I just hope that most people get the help they need.
I am off to a book club tomorrow. Something I have never done before. Have you ever belonged to one ?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 12-Oct-22 16:35:13

I'm more worried about possible power cuts but they're all out of our control, aren't they?

Same question again please.

biglouis Tue 11-Oct-22 18:33:14

Mine has to be done as a home visit so it will be when the NHS contacts me, I havnt felt bad after any of the shots but I know people who has sore arms or felt washed out.

Are you really worried about the economy/spending cuts? Or do you take the view that what you cannot control is not worth worrying about? At 78 with no kids or grandkids I just dont feel I have any "skin in the game" anymore.

AGAA4 Tue 11-Oct-22 15:19:38

White wine but I don't drink much these days.

Have you had the autumn booster? Had mine yesterday and feel a bit rough today

HowVeryDareYou Tue 11-Oct-22 14:45:58

I feel like that practically every day - I haven't got an actual purpose any more - but that feeling eases when I force myself to go out and do something.

What is your favourite alcoholic drink?

biglouis Tue 11-Oct-22 13:49:50

Im not a foodie so I would get my nephew in to cook the meal and he would probably go for classic oriental.

Do you ever feel so depressed that you just dont want to get out of bed and face the day?

I do but I usually manage to drag myself up.
