Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

biglouis Sat 08-Oct-22 09:49:26

My parents rarely took time out to watch TV with me and I have no children.

Do you ever have food sent in and what are your favorite meals?

Mine are Chinese and Thai but I have cut down somewhat now to once every couple of months for a treat.

FannyCornforth Sat 08-Oct-22 07:53:38

No I don’t remember them.

Which TV programs did you enjoy watching with your kids / parents?
My mom and I used to love The Cedar Tree, on at lunchtimes.
Also Kelly Monteith, Knots Landing and Coronation St.
Later it was anything by Alan Bleasdale, Vic and Bob, and Brookside.

biglouis Sat 08-Oct-22 00:41:13

We are going back to the late 1950s but I used to love Saturday Night at the London Palladium because of all the different acts. We only has BBC then of course.

Do you emember "interludes" on the TV? (They were gaps between programs with little films to get the schedule back on time).

I used to like the potter's wheel.

Mollygo Fri 07-Oct-22 22:49:09

Bewitched. We didn’t have a TV, but I watched it at my Grandparents’ house.

Same question please.

HowVeryDareYou Fri 07-Oct-22 22:27:30

question -
What was your favourite tv programme of your childhood?

HowVeryDareYou Fri 07-Oct-22 22:26:31

I went to see Dr Doolittle (Rex Harrison) in 1967. I thought it was magical. I was 8. A nice neighbour took me - she didn't have any children of her own and took a shine to me.

SachaMac Fri 07-Oct-22 18:41:27

Sorry any Sci Fi fans but any of the Star Wars films, once was enough for me!

Do you remember the first film you saw at the pictures. It was Mary Poppins for me, I’d be around 5, I went with my friend and her two big sisters.

hollysteers Fri 07-Oct-22 18:26:32

Yes often. Recently I was courted by Stewart Granger.

Which film would you absolutely refuse to watch again? (Mamma Mia)

MrsKen33 Fri 07-Oct-22 15:31:21

I’m not too keen on that slightly squeaky nylon fur they use to make some stuffed toys. I dislike the feel of it. But that is not really a phobia.
Do you have strange dreams.? I recently dreamt of a dying kitten. When I looked it it it said the universe was trying to get in touch !!!??

SachaMac Fri 07-Oct-22 14:52:09

I have always been scared of spiders but am getting a little braver with old age. I still find the big house spiders that come in at this time of year terrifying but prefer not to kill them. I am going to order a spider trapper so that I can get them outside at arms length. I put off tidying out the garage because it must be full of them.

Is there something that you have always had a fear or phobia of?

biglouis Fri 07-Oct-22 13:01:39

I like to have a good breakfast and dinner but usually just a sandwich or fruit and yogert for lunch

If you find a spider do you kill it or try to put it outside?

I would never kill one. If indoors i try to entice it onto a piece of paper so I can put it outside. If I find it in the garage I just leave it there to find its own way out.

crazyH Fri 07-Oct-22 11:10:55

Not now. I bought one on a whim a couple of years ago. Wore it a couple of times for my walks and found the parachute silk, quite noisy. These days, I tend not to go out in the rain.

Are you a proper 3 meals/day person. Or, like me, do you just eat if and when you’re hungry ?

Mollygo Fri 07-Oct-22 10:30:01

I don’t know what my age looks like, I know so many people around my age , some look older than me and some younger.
A photo of my Nana at my current age, shows a white haired old lady-and I definitely look younger than she did.

It’s pouring down here. Do any of you wear waterproof trousers to go out in the rain?

henetha Fri 07-Oct-22 10:04:15

No, thank goodness. I would hate it.

Do you think you look your age? Or younger? All my life I was told I look young for my age. But no longer. I seem to be crumbling now!

HowVeryDareYou Thu 06-Oct-22 18:54:39

My cat. He's 19, deaf, and one-eyed.

Has your home ever been burgled?

hollysteers Thu 06-Oct-22 14:01:44

Yes I paid every week out of my small wages. My husband disagreed with me when I expected my DC to do the same as we were comfortable, but I still believe it’s the right thing to do.
No, I don’t remember being blamed.

If the house is burning down, what’s the first thing you rescue?

MrsKen33 Thu 06-Oct-22 13:35:16

I never started work. I went straight from student to married. But I did do holiday work as a student and gave my parents a little.

Same question please as I have just come in and can’t think of another ?

biglouis Thu 06-Oct-22 13:33:33

Yes I paid my parents board but I was paid by bank transfer so they never knew how much I earned. That gave me a lot of satisfaction. I left home at 22.

As a child did you ever get blamed for things a sibling had done?

My sister was a snitch and my parents always took her word in any argument. Thats why I hate snitches.

SachaMac Thu 06-Oct-22 13:27:40

I got married at 19 so left home then. I started work in a bank at 16 and paid board etc so was independent from an early age compared to teenagers now.

Did you pay your parents board when you started work. I know a few people who had to hand over their wages and then were given spending money back. Thank goodness that wasn’t me!!

henetha Thu 06-Oct-22 10:05:33

Not sure if I envied them exactly, but I do remember wishing I could grow up fast so I could do what wanted instead of always being told. I was one of those who were "seen and not heard".

Did you leave home at a young age and become independent, or waited until you got married or whatever?

biglouis Thu 06-Oct-22 00:23:09

I wanted to be a ballerina or dancer but I was far too big and clumsy!

When you were a small child did you envy adults?

I envied them their status and respect in the world because it was still a time of "children shall be seen and not heard".

crazyH Wed 05-Oct-22 17:28:02

Yes, I played a teacher, placed a couple of empty chairs in front of me . Placed my dolls on them. My poor, tolerant mother bought me chalk and allowed me to use her door as a blackboard. I did become a teacher/lecturer but gave it up when I had the children.

What were your childhood dreams? Did they come true?

biglouis Wed 05-Oct-22 16:55:02

I used to before mobility issues set in. I now shop online and it can be any day.

As a child did you ever play imaginitive games on your own?

I did all the time. I preferred it to playing with others.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 05-Oct-22 16:36:25

No, I think many shops have the same opening hours, especially on the normal weekdays.

Do you ever shop on a Sunday?

MrsKen33 Wed 05-Oct-22 15:00:34

If my clothes fit I don’t bother. If they seem tight I diet. Hardly ever weigh myself.

Do you find shops etc open later these days?
When we lived in England most shops were open by nine, some at eight. Here in Wales it’s 10 o’clock normally and sometimes later.
