Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

biglouis Wed 02-Nov-22 12:14:03

Not been near anyone who had covid.

Do you have a shower curtain or a screen in your bathroom?

NotAGran55 Wed 02-Nov-22 05:57:25

The only thing I ever buy in the sales is towels from JL.

I still haven’t had covid despite living with 2 people who had it, and rubbing shoulders socially and at work with many people who have had it. I worked all through lockdown at a food bank handling tonnes of groceries.

Have you avoided it in similar circumstances?

MrsKen33 Wed 02-Nov-22 05:06:44

Yes I bought them in a sale last January

Do you wait for the sales if you need anything , or just buy it ?

Wyllow3 Wed 02-Nov-22 00:10:06

No, its just me and I will go marauding in M n S and Waitrose one day to see what takes my fancy in the deli section

Have you bought your Christmas Cards yet?

biglouis Tue 01-Nov-22 23:07:16

Late November as they are mostly non christian round her and just do it for kids. Not trees - just cascading lights on front of the house.

Have you planned the holiday menu yet?

AGAA4 Tue 01-Nov-22 15:52:09

No but where I used to live 2 of my neighbours would try to beat each other to be first to have their tree up. Was as early as end of October one year.

What is the earliest you have seen a Christmas tree in someone's window?

Billybob4491 Tue 01-Nov-22 13:06:26

Yes we have a special prayer for All Souls Day

Are any of your neighbours displaying a Christmas tree in their window yet? -

hollysteers Tue 01-Nov-22 10:10:15

My cat gets a bit bothered but not too much.

Do you mark All Souls Day?

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Nov-22 10:10:03

Oh god louis, it’s awful with Gracie. It’s constant here with fireworks. It will be going on until January now.
She’s absolutely terrified, I’m honestly scared that she could have a heart attack.
I had to give her Valium just last night

What are your opinions on the blasted things? Is it bad where you are?

biglouis Tue 01-Nov-22 10:06:14

I find they drain me.

Do you have to calm any pets on bonfire night?

My nephews cat sits on the window ledge and watches the lights (but they are 7 floors up).

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Nov-22 09:25:16

Sorry, it’s a no from me. (I hate it when I haven’t got much to say!)
I live quite near to Buxton and it’s the sort of thing they do there.
Like biglouis said, I’m also not much of ‘a joiner in’.

Are you? Do you thrive on the company of others, or do others drain you?

SachaMac Tue 01-Nov-22 08:53:37

I have brought some Christmas cards from a charity shop and also picked up a few little stocking fillers when I’ve been out and about.

I am going to a book festival event later this week, a talk by the author Joanna Cannon (really enjoy her books) Do you ever go to book festival events in your area?

AGAA4 Tue 01-Nov-22 07:54:12

I will be accompanying my DD to London where she will be speaking at a conference. We have theatre tickets booked for while we are there.

Have you started buying Christmas presents yet?

ginny Tue 01-Nov-22 07:52:54

Oh , yes we do. We are off in just under a week on a cruise.

I am going to the theatre this evening to see Calendar Girls.
What was the last thing you saw at a theatre ?

MrsKen33 Tue 01-Nov-22 04:06:43

Well here we are again Fanny

Yes I too have a bowl of strange shaped squash, and a few years ago I knitted several little pumpkins which look quite good on the hall table.

November is a quiet month for us, no birthdays or anything. Do you have anything special planned for this month.?

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Nov-22 03:31:23

No I close the curtains as early as possible!
I’ve never encouraged the kids, but I’ve always had mini mars bars etc at hand for them.
But I try not to answer the door to strangers full stop these days.
I’ve got a beautiful bowl full of colourful squash though.

Do you have any autumnal decor around the house or garden? I’ve got some squirrels and velvet pumpkins on my mantle piece 🍁

biglouis Mon 31-Oct-22 22:58:52

I dont have any children but we used to get monopoly out every year when I was a kid.

Do you decorate your house fot haloween/trick a treat to invite callers?

SachaMac Mon 31-Oct-22 17:27:07

I was already trying to use my car a little less before fuel shot up. If I’m going out with friends we tend to take it in turns to drive rather than all arriving separately and if I’m out somewhere in the car I try and call at places while I’m passing rather than making another journey.

Do you buy a new board game to play with family at Christmas or just get the old ones out?

AGAA4 Mon 31-Oct-22 16:47:33

No. The same reason. Very few charging points out here in the countryside so nobody I know has one.

Have you cut down on driving with the high petrol costs?

MrsKen33 Mon 31-Oct-22 10:58:45

I did an OU degree many moons ago. That was partly on line.

We live in rural Wales, electric car charging points are few and far between.

Have you ever been in an electric car ?

Mollygo Mon 31-Oct-22 10:21:36

If I won the lottery I might do that. I’m still concerned about the resources used and how they are obtained to make electric cars possible.

Have you noticed an increasing number of car park spaces being allocated to charging points in supermarkets, parks and sports centres. They’re increasing near us.

ginny Mon 31-Oct-22 10:20:51

No., they are still too expensive. We have a touring caravan and an electric vehicle would not be up to the job.

I have an on line art class this evening.
Have you ever taken part in an on liecourse ?

henetha Mon 31-Oct-22 10:13:56

Just occasionally. The bus to Exeter stops near here so it saves petrol/parking.

Are you planning to swap your car for an electric one soon?

hollysteers Mon 31-Oct-22 09:14:54

I just felt a bit off and tired for a day after my covid jab a few weeks ago.

Do you use public transport? (I drive, but use the bus and train once or twice a week)

biglouis Mon 31-Oct-22 07:11:18

I dont know what a racha happy mouse is but there is a lot of junk in my handbag!

Have you ever had a bad or allergic reaction to one of the covid jabs?

I had a Pfizer for my booster a week ago and 48 hours later woke up shivering with a high temperature. Could not get warm. It had gone by next day.
