It's pronounced "Goo-vain". Allegedly.

It started about 25 years ago in a serious online forum about language and grammar when somebody asked seriously about the correct name of the @ symbol. The thread then continued to discuss the formal names of other symbols until it diverged from the original point:

Affection is often confused with effection - one is a noun and the other is a verb. Not sure which if I'm honest although one of the words can be both a verb and a noun.

I should have paid more attention in my English Language classes many moons ago!!
