Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

FannyCornforth Sat 21-Jan-23 04:39:15

I loved all the Stuck Stories 😄

No, I haven’t Sacha, it sounds fun! I’m looking forward to hearing where you went.
It’s interesting that you worked in a special school.
I nearly applied for a role in one, but I knew that I wouldn’t be able to handle the physical side of things.

What is the most rewarding job or other activity that you have done?

I think mine was when I taught the English language to infant children from Poland and other Eastern European countries

SachaMac Fri 20-Jan-23 14:20:14

I took our three children to the Panto and also went with the children at the special school I worked at. I don’t really like traditional panto though, I tend to take my GC to something at the local theatre, this year it was Wind in the Willows, the year before Treasure Island, both excellent. I much prefer that kind of thing to all the ‘he’s behind you’ and the custard pie throwing & water pistol malarky. I know I’m such a kill joy! smile

I’m off on a mystery weekend with friends next week, have any of you ever been on one and where did you end up?

FannyCornforth Fri 20-Jan-23 14:11:57

Thank you all for your lovely birthday wishes x

No. No travel for work, unless you count Twycross Zoo and the pantomime in town!

Did you go to pantomimes as a child, or take your own dc, dgc etc?
Do you enjoy them?

biglouis Fri 20-Jan-23 08:58:09

I dont have any holidays planned unless you count staying with friends or relatives in UK.

Have you had a job with involves regular travel abroad?

When I travelled to the USA for academic conferences the uni had to arrange policies which covered staff for over a million dollars! They have an entire departent which arranges travel.

NotAGran55 Fri 20-Jan-23 06:28:35

We have an annual travel policy which renews almost automatically.

Do you have any holidays in the pipeline?
We don’t yet, but always go somewhere and usually short notice.

I always prefer to try clothes on at home. Have to make sure I don’t mislay the receipt (as have done sometimes).
Shop cubicles are so small if you bend down to do up shoes your bottom can stick out of the hard to draw curtain (but perhaps that is just me?)

Martin Lewis said last night we must All buy holiday insurance at the time of booking. He was very insistent.
Do you do that ?

SachaMac Thu 19-Jan-23 19:34:41

Happy Birthday Fanny hope you have had a lovely relaxing day 🥳

On stuck situations, I was trying on a lovely dress for a family wedding which was really a size too small but I loved it so thought I’d try & squeeze into it. It was ridiculously tight and I could not get it up & over my arms & shoulders to get it off. I was stuck in it for ages sweating like a pig in the changing room but did eventually escape, there was a slight ripping sound and I felt really bad about that!!

Do you like to try things on before buying when out shopping or prefer to take clothes home & try on in the comfort of your own home and return if not suitable. It’s the latter for me 😅

Stuck in the porch when I closed the front door, then went to unlock the porch only to find my keys were still in the house. In the days before mobile phones, I had to bang on the window until a passer-by stopped. They kindly contacted my neighbour who had our spare key. You get thirsty very quickly in a hot porch!

Any more stuck situations?

NotAGran55 Thu 19-Jan-23 13:42:22

Same again 😀

NotAGran55 Thu 19-Jan-23 13:40:51

I got stuck in a lift in a hotel Hanover in 1990, on my way to Berlin to see Roger Waters perform the The Wall at the newly fallen wall.
It was a small lift, full to capacity with 8/9 of us in it. The owners communicated well with us after we pushed the emergency button, but it took an hour and a half to be released.
We arrived in our room to find a bottle of wine on ice and a few nibbles by way of an apology.

AGAA4 Thu 19-Jan-23 11:47:51

I got stuck in the shed when the wind blew the warped door shut tight. I was on there for a while.

Same again please

I got stuck in a loo at Le Treport in Northern France. I felt so exasperated but eventually got free.

Anyone else?

biglouis Thu 19-Jan-23 11:15:57

I got stuck on a balcony in Egypt once - closed the dood behind me and it snapped shut. Fortunately I saw a guest on another balcony and got them to alert reception. Was out there about 30 minutes in very sticky heat.

Same question? Ever got "stuck" anywhere?

henetha Thu 19-Jan-23 10:00:27

Happy Birthday Fanny. flowers Have a great day. smile

TillyTrotter Thu 19-Jan-23 08:41:49

👋 Fanny 🙂
Oh dear (about the loo)
I got stuck in a loo on a cross channel ferry.

Q. Has anybody else been stuck in something?

FannyCornforth Thu 19-Jan-23 08:35:55

Thank you Molly 😘

FannyCornforth Thu 19-Jan-23 08:35:28

Oh thank you AGA and Tilly 💕
Tilly, beautiful leopard.
I haven’t you seen for ages. smile
I remember that I didn’t reply to you a long while back.
So - yes, I have been to Westonburt (if that’s how you spell it).
It’s not far from where I grew up. We used to go as a family and I went with school once.
I remember I got stuck in the loo there for some reason confused

Mollygo Thu 19-Jan-23 08:31:49

FannyCornforth Thu 19-Jan-23 07:35:37

PS I’m going to take you up on all your suggestions.
I’ve been meaning to do my nails for ages.
I think fish and chips are on the menu, and I’ll crack open the Baileys! 😋

FannyCornforth Thu 19-Jan-23 07:33:17

Thank you NotAGran 😘
I’d like to be on holiday at the seaside, in a lovely little cottage.
North Yorkshire or Northumberland.
I love the English seaside off season.

What about you?

NotAGran55 Thu 19-Jan-23 07:16:15

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FANNY 🥂 🍾 💐 🎁 💝 🎂
Have a lovely day dear lady however you spend it.

How about a long bath and pampering session, hair, nails dress up, DH prepare a lovely meal.
Order yourself something extravagant if you can run to it.
A favourite gig or film on the TV. Glass or two of your favourite tipple, or choc ice and popcorn.

If you were to go out what would you like to do to celebrate 🎉?
