Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

FannyCornforth Thu 19-Jan-23 06:08:34

Once more for luck 🍀

The thread isn’t showing up again sad

I have my own superstitions.
The main one is about not killing creatures.
You know when worms come out the grass when it rains, and wander onto pavements?
I have an overwhelming urge to pick them up and put them safely back on the grass.
I do actually pick them up, but it’s hard to get all of them, and it’s embarrassing if there are other people about (I’m sounding like a lunatic now!) 🪱
Yesterday I accidentally drowned a tiny fruit fly while washing my hands.
I rescued him and dried him out on a bit of loo roll.
If I kill a creature something bad will happen.

It’s my birthday today! 🥳
We can’t go out, so what can I do to make the day special?
All suggestions welcome! Thank you

Completely lost confidence to learn to swim or enjoy baths after I was flung in the deep end as a kid.

Do you have any everyday superstitions about things in the house like breaking mirrors, opening umbrellas etc?

I dont have any suspestitions but all my family do. My grandmother had a whole host of them from black cats to peacock feathers.

Mollygo Wed 18-Jan-23 19:14:39

Yes I like swimming though I’m not overly fond of cold water like some GN members.
I also really enjoy water fitness activities like aqua tone. Who would have thought a noodle would need so much strength to manipulate.

Have you tried aqua fit type exercises?

SachaMac Wed 18-Jan-23 18:57:21

Spiders and deep water equally. I’m a weak swimmer, so have a real fear of getting out of my depth. I am also terrified of spiders, particularly the big house spiders that suddenly appear running across the carpet, ridiculous I know!!

Do you enjoy swimming?

Heights for me too. I found out when on honeymoon we climbed to the gallery in St Paul's Cathedral. I went into panic mode and DH had to lead me to the steps with me facing the wall.

Same question please

Winter holidays would be my worst nightmare! I would not go anywhere snowy or icy if you paid me.

NotAGran55: On the other hand I have no fear of performing on stage or public speaking.

What is you biggest fear?

Mine is heights. I cant stand in high places and look over a rail or balcony. However I overcame my fear of flying.

henetha Wed 18-Jan-23 11:19:14

Only when I was young and my elocution teacher entered me into various poetry and drama competitions. I remember enjoying being on stage in spite of being terrified.

Do you ever have winter holidays? I've just come back from one.

NotAGran55 Tue 17-Jan-23 21:05:37

Easier to say who I haven’t seen!
Jimi Hendrix… ummm… there must be more.

Have you ever performed on stage?
I haven’t, it would be my worst nightmare.

SachaMac Tue 17-Jan-23 19:15:07

I prefer rock but also like Motown & a bit of Northern soul

Have you ever seen any rock legends live?

HowVeryDareYou Tue 17-Jan-23 18:52:00

I prefer spring - the beginnings of flowers, the warmer weather

What music genres do you like to listen to? (I prefer rock and metal)

crazyH Tue 17-Jan-23 17:31:49

No way. I stay indoors, in the warm. And I don’t want to slip on the ice either.

Which is your favourite season of the year ? Mine is Autumn 🍂- I just love the colours

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 17-Jan-23 12:22:27

No, I tend to stay in unless I have an appointment somewhere which can't be altered. Even a heavy frost can tip the balance.

Same question again please.

AGAA4 Tue 17-Jan-23 08:51:10

Robins. Cheeky little birds.

If you have snow and ice this morning will you be going out?

FannyCornforth Tue 17-Jan-23 08:41:59

Tawny Owls for me too. As you might already know, my parents and I kept tame owls.
I’ve got a bit of a thing about Ugandan Shoe Bills.
And I love Chinese Crested Herons - I’ve got a really funny photo of MrC with one. They are eyeball to eyeball, and he (MrC) looks quite scared.
I like all birds - even the pesky magpies.

Same question please

SachaMac Tue 17-Jan-23 08:25:58

Hard to choose but I think for me it’s the Tawny Owl, although I only very rarely see one in the wild. I hear them a lot at night. I suppose their huge eyes and overall character are what appeals. The Robin is probably next on my list.

The same question again please.

Too Good to Go is an app, I have just discovered.
You can buy a Magic Bag for about £3 - £4 and get surplus food from local shops, bakeries and restaurants. You have to collect it.
Interesting!

Pubs are one of the few places I’d be happy to go to alone. (Day time, not night time)
Take a paper or a book (dog optional), order a drink, sit in a quiet corner and you’re good to go.

What is your favourite bird and why?

MrsKen33 Mon 16-Jan-23 19:34:27

I don’t know what a Too good to go bag is either.

Neither would I walk into a pub on my own. Not because I would feel embarrassed but because I very rarely go in a pub.

Where might to feel safe and happy to go on your own?

AGAA4 Mon 16-Jan-23 19:33:43

I would feel a bit awkward but we shouldn't should we. Men think nothing of dropping in for a pint.

Same question please

crazyH Mon 16-Jan-23 18:47:14

No I haven’t - I don’t know what it is either 😂

My widowed friend thinks nothing of going regularly, to the local pub on her own I would feel too embarrassed, to walk in on my own. How about you ?

SachaMac Mon 16-Jan-23 18:17:25

Whoops overlapped there,
I prefer the cooler sunny days, you can wrap up and the days seem so much more pleasant and bright.

I’ll repeat my question:
Have you ever tried a ‘Too Good to Go’ bag from anywhere. I haven’t but my daughters have and got some really good stuff including fresh salmon & lots of nice fruit & vegetables as well as bread & cream cakes

SachaMac Mon 16-Jan-23 14:34:54

Yes I tend to binge watch if I’m enjoying a series, here’s a few:
Afterlife
Game of Thrones
Dirty John (First Series, it’s not quite what it sounds like)
Stranger Things (all seasons)
This is Going to Hurt
Line of Duty
The Tourist

AGAA4 Mon 16-Jan-23 14:10:13

Only Line of Duty. I haven't binge watched any others.

Do you prefer cold sunny days or milder overcast weather?
