Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

crazyH Sun 26-Mar-23 20:09:00

There was a huge age difference between my mum and dad. I was the youngest of 9 children. By the time I came along, Dad was an oldish man, and retired from the legal profession. So he used to take me to school. I remember clearly, holding his hand and walking to nursery school, which was just down the road. Lovely memories 😘

My grandfather was a miner and I remember scrubbing his back when he came home from work. It was in the back kitchen with a roaring fire and a long ,grey tin bath. I was about four.
Same question please

We moved into a brand new house when I was about 3 in 1950 so it did have a bathroom but we often stayed with my aunt and I remember the walk to the outside toilet and being bathed in the big stone sink.

Do you remember things from when you were very young?

biglouis Sun 26-Mar-23 12:10:53

Im also interested in WW2 and how families coped. I was a very small child during the war. I can remember the austerity of the few years after and many people thought the shortages were worse than during the war itself. I can recall my mother having to visit the shops every day as there were no fridges.

Did you have a bathroom in your house during the 40s/50s?

We had a tin bath on the back yard wall!

DanniRae Sat 25-Mar-23 12:40:29

I'm interested in 3 aspects of WW2:

I also love reading about how families coped
The occupation of the Channel Island
Prisoners escaping from German POW camps ...I'd love to visit Colditz and loved the tv series about it

Im interested in all periods of history but especially the Tudors and the Victorian period. However I dont think I would like to have lived then with no central heating.

Which historical figure would you like to meet?

My choice would be Elizabeth I

SachaMac Fri 24-Mar-23 20:43:16

I’m always interested in family life during WW1 & WW2 and hearing how they coped. I also found the history of Pompeii fascinating and really enjoyed visiting the area.

Same question please

I would probably use my bookshelf as background but as I only use Zoom for family who know what my rooms look like I just use wherever I happen to be.

Is there a period of history that you are interested in?

biglouis Thu 23-Mar-23 11:21:47

Never taken any classes on Zoom but have attended some webinars on subjects of interest.

If you used Zoom for business would you use one of their virtual or blurred backgrounds or show your own home?

I just use my own home because there is a (genuine) bookshelf behind me in the office.

I have sung in several choirs and also sung solos in choir and at weddings and shows.
Sadly , due to medical problems my voice is not what it used to be. I miss it very much.

Have you /do you take any classes on zoom? If so what are they ?

biglouis Wed 22-Mar-23 19:24:47

I never got past 3 chords on the guitar!

However I had a good singing voice when I was younger and sang opera.

Did/do you ever sing in a choir or group?

MrsKen33 Wed 22-Mar-23 18:00:17

I would love to play the piano. But I fear I am not at all musical.

Do you play any instrument?

SachaMac Wed 22-Mar-23 13:59:31

I’m a terrible swimmer, I just seem to sink. I won’t go into deep water, I have to be able to put my feet down. I can’t knit, tried following a pattern a few times but failed miserably. I also avoid reversing my car into parking spaces, I always go in front first.

Would you consider having lessons to learn something you’ve never mastered like swimming, playing a musical instrument, horse riding etc?
I would like to get more confident in water and learn to swim properly.

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 22-Mar-23 13:15:35

I can't crochet, sew, change a plug, or do anything on a car - but then, I've never wanted to learn any of those things anyway.

same question

henetha Wed 22-Mar-23 10:38:38

I can't crochet. I tried it last year and was hopeless. Nor can I change the wheel of a car.

Same again

crazyH Wed 22-Mar-23 10:35:55

Useless here too - I can’t paint, decorate, sew, swim. Pretty good at idle conversation.

Same question

FannyCornforth Wed 22-Mar-23 07:39:13

Really loving ‘miserable’ weather, and absolutely loathing anything that is any where near what most people believe to be ‘glorious’

What can’t you do that most others can?
I can’t drive, swim or ride a bike (useless really grin)

biglouis Tue 21-Mar-23 23:15:18

I love tortoises and many people thing they are ugly, boring and cold. I dont agree. They are so comical and dignified. They are great pets. Half the year they are asleep and the rest you just keep them on a "tortoise" table or a little run in your garden. They are not noisy and dont have to be taken for walks.

Same question please.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 21-Mar-23 17:18:52

I love patchwork quilting and some people think that's bonkers.

Same question again, please.

NotAGran55 Tue 21-Mar-23 15:46:44

I’m a huge fan of Eric Clapton and have seen him more than 100 times . I saw him 18 times in 1991 for example 🎸 and have seen him once this year so far with one more gig booked at the moment although hopeful for more.

Do you have any passions that people think are bonkers 😜?

biglouis Tue 21-Mar-23 11:42:33

I would love to see Tina Turner especially when she was at her peak.

Did you follow a particular rock band or star when you were younger?

I used to follow Del Shannon whenever he came to this country. Also Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney. Went to all their concerts in Liverpool and sometimes other cities.

MrsKen33 Tue 21-Mar-23 06:03:05

Leonard Cohen , I think.

Same question please

SachaMac Mon 20-Mar-23 18:28:14

I tend to listen to classic rock music from the 60’s & 70’s the most but I like a wide variety of music from hard rock to Motown & Elvis. I’m also a big fan of Oasis and Bon Jovi, I’ve seen them several times. I enjoy listening to new artists but I have to admit I prefer the older stuff.

Is there any band/singer you would have liked to see live. I’d like to have seen the Stones in their heyday not so much now. Id still like to see Bruce Springsteen,

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 20-Mar-23 16:29:47

Yes, I am - from spreadsheets, Internet shopping, creating documents, mailmerge, some desktop publishing, and other relatively simple stuff.

What genres of music do you listen to?

DanniRae Mon 20-Mar-23 15:14:03

yEs i aM! grin

Sorry couldn't resist doing that.

Actually I am not bad .... if all else fails I get one of my three kids to help me.

Same question, please
