Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

NotAGran55 Wed 07-Dec-22 06:43:25

Not a fan of Christmas pudding and only ever made once, vegetarian variety, and steamed up the kitchen for hours.
We ate one at home and took one to the in-laws who were wary of it because it was veggie and I suspect never ate it.

I only cook a roast dinner once a year at Christmas and in my view that is once too often 😀

Do you cook anything for others that you would rather swerve yourself?

FannyCornforth Wed 07-Dec-22 06:35:06

Same here NotAGran, I remember the Silver Jubilee party we had in our cul de sac.
I remember the red, white and blue dress they my mom made me. I was 5!
I also remember the replica crown my dad made me. It was absolutely beautiful, a perfect copy.

Christmas food I’ve never had -
A ‘proper’ pig in a blanket - I’ve had the veggie version.
I haven’t had turkey for over 40 years.

Do you like Christmas pudding?
Do you make your own?

NotAGran55 Wed 07-Dec-22 06:08:54

The only street party I went to was The Silver Jubilee.
Our cul- de-sac of 60 houses closed for the afternoon for the 🎈 🎉🧁

Is there any traditional Christmas food that you have never eaten?

I’ve never tasted turkey.

MrsKen33 Wed 07-Dec-22 04:19:12

Yes The Coronation one I remember and we always had a big party at church after the Whitsun walk. You had to take a spoon and bowl. My mother put sticking plaster on them with my name. Fish paste sandwiches, jelly ,blancmange and sponge cake,.
Again please

biglouis Tue 06-Dec-22 22:36:18

Same as above, sliding on the ice, go karting down hills and playing near the canal.

Did you ever go to street parties as a child?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 06-Dec-22 15:45:47

To go back a few posts, Harry and his wife probably deserve each other. A sad situation, all round.

We played British Bulldog at junior school which was banned as it was deemed dangerous, also sliding on the ice in the playground - difficult to stop that though, isn't it? Of course, we waited until we were a few yards away from the school gates and then we slid.

Same question again please.

My school Christmas party memories relate more to my children’s experience. They love making hats and favourite party games are sharks and Santa’s supermarket.

Musical Chairs was banned on health and safety grounds. What do you remember playing that’s banned because of H&S?

SachaMac Tue 06-Dec-22 12:31:41

Yes I played Angel Gabrielle in the school nativity, and loved every moment, it was my last year at junior school. The little church in the grounds of the school is one of the oldest buildings in the town & was the perfect venue for the candle lit nativity.

What memories have you got of the school Christmas parties. I remember making our hats & crackers out of toilet rolls & crepe paper and playing Postman's Knock.

FannyCornforth Tue 06-Dec-22 11:51:32

Yes, I must have been in lots.
I loved acting at school.
I was a wise man a few times, as I was tall for my age (absolutely average now)
I’ve written, directed, costumed and propped a few too!

Great question! Same again - nativity memories please

biglouis Tue 06-Dec-22 11:27:46

Snitching is a form or betrayal so yes I have several times been betrayed.

We you ever in a nativity play?

I was Mary once and my grandmother made me a costume out of old sheets, with one dyed blue. She made me several school/carnival costumes.

FannyCornforth Tue 06-Dec-22 10:09:46

Not this pair!

FannyCornforth Tue 06-Dec-22 10:08:14

Ooh, betrayed is such a biblical word!
I’ve been treated incredibly shabbily in various situations, but I’m not sure if I’ve been betrayed, happily. Although a very special person probably came close

Harry and his missus. Thoughts?

henetha Tue 06-Dec-22 09:57:01

Yes. A couple of times. In my late teens by a friend. And then by my ex partner.

Same question as my brain isn't working this morning.

MrsKen33 Tue 06-Dec-22 04:07:47

Same as you crazyH, I did, but my Ma read it and confronted me with my private dreams. Never did again. First time I felt misunderstood and betrayed. I think I was fourteen.

Have you ever been betrayed?

crazyH Mon 05-Dec-22 21:40:49

Yes always did - my Mum had sneaked into my room once and read parts of my diary and was horrified. These days there’s nothing mind boggling to write about - ‘made a lasagne from scratch’, ‘went to Tescos, spent nearly £50 on nothing’, unless my little GC come and they say something cute and I always make a note in my diary.

Same question.

SachaMac Mon 05-Dec-22 17:25:22

I have found it a bit more stressful this year, I’ve been out & about doing some nice Christmassy things but I’m now very behind with everything now.

Do you keep a diary or journal. I have recently been brought a lovely journal but having started it yet.

crazyH Mon 05-Dec-22 14:45:24

I very rarely have breakfast, because I’m a late riser.
Xmas day will be the same. I’ll have a cosy lie-in, watch a Xmas service perhaps ( always went to midnight mass, but haven’t done so for a couple of years). Then, get ready for lunch at my daughter’s house.

I find the run up to Xmas very stressful. I still haven’t bought anything for the teenagers in my life. I have transferred money weeks ago, but I like to give them something to unwrap.. Do you find it stressful, the run up I mean ?

MrsKen33 Mon 05-Dec-22 14:30:57

Sometimes as it is a quick and easy way to gather up our enormous amount of leaves.

Thank you henetha. Will do 😀
Do you have anything special for breakfast on Christmas morning? We always have Bucks Fizz. Start as we mean to go on

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 05-Dec-22 11:28:43

I mow the lawn when I must as it's my most hated garden task. In the winter it's often too wet to mow, what a nuisance, and it's the same every winter.

Same question again please.

Mollygo Mon 05-Dec-22 10:51:19

Sorry forgot a question.
Do you mow your lawn in winter?

Mollygo Mon 05-Dec-22 10:50:37

PJS, while I cook, then I’ve got a special jumper with subtle sparkles and usually wear velvet trousers, but this year I think I might wear jogging bottoms because they’re warmer and the dog can’t ruin them.

biglouis Mon 05-Dec-22 10:36:30

I wear a kaftan same as always

Same question!

henetha Mon 05-Dec-22 10:07:24

Eat it now! Sounds delicious. Then make another....

What do you wear on Christmas Day? Something special?
Or just casual? I've got a pretty Christmas jumper.

MrsKen33 Sun 04-Dec-22 15:53:57

I’ve bought a Turkey crown, but we are going toDDs for lunch and I believe we are having beef.

Just made an apple and mince meat tart. Shall we eat it now or keep it until Christmas.? I’ll go with the first answer 🥧

biglouis Sun 04-Dec-22 10:36:50

I love mince pies and have been ordering some from Tesco for the last 3 weeks shopping.

Are you having a turkey this year?

Just reading up on the turkey shortage. I find them a bit dry. Im going to my nephews for 2 days so we settled on a chicken instead.
