Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Dec-22 10:08:33

My phone’s not playing ball today. 🙄

Eaten any mince pies yet?
I haven’t.
I might make some today.
I use puff pastry

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Dec-22 09:58:52

Very traditional and carefully curated. I’ll post a photo, hang on…

MrsKen33 Sun 04-Dec-22 09:53:14

No not yet. It usually goes up on my birthday.

Do you have a sparkly tree or a ‘Scandi’ one or lots of decorations you have collected over the years? Mine is the latter.

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Dec-22 09:31:38

I’d love to go to Iceland and Alaska.

Is your tree up?
Mine (a real living one in a pot) arrived on Friday, but I haven’t decorated it yet
(I’ve got awful plantar fasciitis at the moment- it’s agonising! 😣)

Yes I’ve been to Dubai, I enjoyed the experience, some truly amazing buildings. It’s ideal for a few days stop over.

Is there anywhere you would really like to visit but haven’t yet, home or abroad.

biglouis Sat 03-Dec-22 22:57:14

No interest in football or most other sports. More interested in the social aspects of the reporting.

Have you ever been to any of the Gulf countries?

Ive visited Dubai and most of the Emirates, Bahrain and Oman but never Qatar. They are interesting countries with some stunning architecture. They are also very safe countries for women to visit travelling alone.

We see one side of the family on Christmas Day and the other half on Boxing Day. This years it’s my brother, sister and families and we are entertaining.

Are you enjoying/watching the World Cup?

I am 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

MrsKen33 Sat 03-Dec-22 18:03:12

We don’t have a cinema near us, a long journey to the nearest so I haven’t seen anything recently.

What do you do on Boxing Day ?

henetha Sat 03-Dec-22 14:44:11

Mostly fiction, but I love biographies and travel books. In particular Bill Bryson.
(I love the Handmaid's Tale, biglouis. Recently started the new series).

I'm hoping to see the film "She Said" which is about the Harvey Weinstein events. It's not on at my local cinema so I hope I can see it somewhere. Have you seen it or hope to?

SachaMac Sat 03-Dec-22 12:50:34

No but it’s on my list as is the book.

Do you prefer reading fictional or nonfictional books. I like to mix it up but read much more fiction.

biglouis Sat 03-Dec-22 11:49:40

Im not a great fan of stage musicals or panto but I recall seeing "Camelot" many years ago when it first opened in London. Im not a fan of ballet either but I love opera and Shapespeare.

Have you watched "the handmaids tale"? A new series has just begun.

henetha Sat 03-Dec-22 10:27:56

Oh, difficult! Ballet I think. I loved Panto when I had children to take. Opera is great in some bits but not others. Dance is always wonderful, so ballet it shall be.

But my real love is stage musicals (Wasn't strictly good last night with the musicals theme). What stage musicals have you loved? Or what new ones would you like to see?

Mollygo Sat 03-Dec-22 10:19:31

Oh no I didn’t!
Oh yes I did -even appeared in one once.
I remember, enjoying them much more when I took the children and the grandchildren.

Opera, Ballet or Pantomime?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 03-Dec-22 10:07:26

I don't recall going to the circus, but I may have done - if I disliked it, it obviously didn't traumatize me.

Did you go to the panto?

MrsKen33 Sat 03-Dec-22 05:39:40

No but next door had an African Grey Parrot, quite old a think. It could mimic all their voices, the telephone, door bell, and especially Mrs C calling her children. Really funny to listen to.

Did You ever go to the circus as a child? I went once, hated it.

biglouis Sat 03-Dec-22 00:22:04

I like cockatoos - amazing little birds.

Have you ever kept a budgie or small bird?

We always had one in my family but I have never kept a caged bird.

FannyCornforth Fri 02-Dec-22 17:35:57

No. I don’t walk around; have earphones; or listen to music

What is your favourite bird?
Mine is the tawny owl, but I’d absolutely love to have a parrot to share my life with

SachaMac Fri 02-Dec-22 16:46:17

I listen to Virgin Anthems in the car, it’s my kind of music and my local radio station at home.

Do you ever walk around listening to music through ear phones.

Mollygo Fri 02-Dec-22 13:12:01

It’s a Fair Cop for something light hearted.

What about other GN favourites?

FannyCornforth Fri 02-Dec-22 10:38:46

Yes. We nearly spent it in Goa once, but we flew on New Year’s Eve instead, as it was so cheap.

Which radio stations or programs do you enjoy?

biglouis Thu 01-Dec-22 14:03:51

I would go off to somewhere they do not celebrate christmas but have a chauffeur take me anywhere I wanted to go. Best christmas I ever spent was in Nepal.

Have you ever thought of spending christmas abroad?

SachaMac Thu 01-Dec-22 12:28:39

I would be much more generous with my gifts but would still spend Christmas at home with the family with our usual traditions. I might order a massive hamper from Fortnum & Mason that we could all get stuck into then in the New Year I’d book a luxurious family holiday for everyone.

Can we go with this same question again please?

Mollygo Thu 01-Dec-22 10:55:27

No-except that I might have someone to deliver me via an environmentally unfriendly helicopter flight to see family instead of driving in an environmentally unfriendly car for 6-7 hours.
What about anyone else?
Same question.

henetha Thu 01-Dec-22 09:57:34

Only if absolutely forced to. There were something called "Socials" at a local church hall and I was persuaded to go to these to make me less shy. It didn't work. I hated them.

If you were suddenly rich would you have a different sort of Christmas?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 01-Dec-22 09:37:04

I think I was about 15 or 16 and got my first kiss at the local Palais de Dance. I didn't think it was that special, wondered what all the fuss was about, and disliked his stubble.

Did you go to dances at your local 'pally' or similar?
