Do it in a couple of sentences, but don't tell us the name of the character or the work they appear in.

Black and poorly treated he still keeps his kind nature and dignity

Think I should add, he can run like the wind when he needs to.

Since nobody has guessed this, it’s Black Beauty 😁

Isn’t this game getting out of hand? On another of my forums this game is played by everyone trying to guess the first one and not moving on until somebody has got it right, they then provide the next one.If nobody is guessing right the OP or next in line gives further clues to it.This stops all the many guesses and new questions and keeps the game on point.
Just saying 😄

Yes, Lorna Doone. I like this game, but am amused that in the gransnet forum, you aren't quite sure which answer is relevant, and it's making for some amusing juxtapositions!

We don't know her name but she is haunted by her predecessor.

Rebecca

Yes; though of course strictly speaking that is the name of the book rather than the character.

She, of course, is Mrs. de Winter (the second)
