Oh, it’s probably Miss Read, as someone else said

I love the idea of this game / quiz, but the format makes it a bit awkward.
Thanks, biglouis, I'd been thinking a 'completely fictional' character rather than a real life one who also had a fictional persona.
Still don't know who the 'school teacher' is - I personally don't think Jean Brodie as she was all about her 'girls' and not the neighbours so much (ages since I read it).

The spiritual woman with the sweet tooth is haunting me - one of those that when revealed I'll say 'of course!' but she's just out of reach at the moment!

Not necessarily my favourite but….

An unmarried school teacher, who is deeply interested in her neighbours, but (apparently) never gossips.

That’s one of my favourites too (if we are on the same page, so to speak)
Is the character Barbara Covett?

Mine was Thomas Cromwell in "Wolfe Hall". Suggests to Henry VIII that he break with the pope and make himself head of the church of England in order to divorce Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn.

Jane Eyre?

Born into a humble background, spend many years abroad learned and qualified as a lawyer. Made a suggestion to his boss which altered the entire history of this country.

I thought it was Jean Brodie. Mine is : Orphaned and brought up by unkind relative and eventually worked as a governess.

Is the schoolteacher Miss Read?

Daughter of a rural clergyman, who suddenly, in a fit of social conscience, moves the whole family to an industrial town; where she learns about life, manufacturing, economics, friendship, different kinds of families, and love.

Far from the Maddening?

keepcalmandcavachon Thu 18-May-23 15:20:58

Beautiful romantic country girl, happy to be a dairy maid in Wessex. All hope, trust and spirit ruined by MEN!

GoldenLady Thu 18-May-23 15:17:34

Sounds like fun. But are we supposed to guess who the character is, and whoever gets it right does the next character?

LadyHonoriaDedlock Thu 18-May-23 15:01:53

Do it in a couple of sentences, but don't tell us the name of the character or the work they appear in.
