Classic Words

Following a recommendation here on GN, I started playing Classic Words a few years ago. I use the setting "Extremely Hard" and always play against the "Droid". Lately Mr Droid has started using loads of new, very obscure words.

Examples from my present board include

Moust
Steddy
Jabiru

Over time I have noticed several changes in the dictionary - usually PC-driven. For example, it used to accept "goy", which is a Yiddish name for non-Jews, not particularly derogatory, as far as I know. The droid itself used Squaw once, but when I made that word at a later date, it was not accepted.

And, most infuriatingly, it never accepts quora, which I am sure is a perfectly cromulent plural of quorum.

It does help that it accepts both American and British spellings, which I sometimes take advantage of.

Fortunately even though it has all these new words up its sleeve and it blocks some of mine, I still manage to beat it 3 or 4 times out of 5.

Has anyone else noticed these developments?

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too! Some of these new words are super obscure, and the dictionary changes are odd. “Squaw” being banned but other weird ones sneaking in is frustrating. But hey, you’re still beating the Droid most of the time, so you’re doing great.

I do Classic Words most days however I have noticed that the organisers are becoming more pc. ☹️ Free speech appears to be fading away.

If "goy" is banned then so, presumably, is "shiksa".

It started happening with Words With Friends, a while back, too.
It's probably political correctness, not that many politicians would give a toss!
