Didn't think it was a real word, I had to look it up.

It was the only letter combination that I could find but I didn't think it was a real word either.

Kicking myself for wasting so much time on this. On row 5 I put in a word without 2 of the letters just to establish possible locations of 2 of the included letters. Was then able to guess possible answers, most of which weren't actual words! Eventually found the answer but any more like this and I might abandon Wordle - life's too short!

Well what sort of word is that !!!
Wordle s really scrapping the barrel now

LucyAnna5 Wed 15-Jul-26 14:34:21

Silly Wordle today!

Lovetopaint037 Wed 15-Jul-26 17:04:42

Agree. The game is supposed to be based on words. Surely today’s can only be a sound or exclamation. Disappointing! The reason I like the New York Wordle is that it uses actual words and not obscure words based on all sorts of oddities.

Ridiculous! I’m in agreement with others here. I’d never have guessed this and needed help, but where’s the fun in that!

Patsy70 Wed 15-Jul-26 17:49:52

I gave up as it was obviously too challenging for me. I know the word, but probably wouldn’t have thought if it.

Grandmafrench Wed 15-Jul-26 18:49:22

I failed!
Not a bad loser, but honestly this is a sound not a word.
Are we reduced to β€˜Soundle’ now?

Litterpicker Wed 15-Jul-26 18:54:50

I cheated - www.tomsguide.com/news/what-is-todays-wordle-answer - first 3 clues plus the hint as to meaning - then it came to me. I think it was a common exclamation in some of my childhood reading, probably American stories like the Katy books.

I failed too in the early hours. Would never have assembled those letters together as I don’t know it as a word. Is it used in US literature, maybe, to mimic a sound?

nadateturbe Wed 15-Jul-26 20:40:56

Oh fgs! Can't believe they used this "word".

FYI β€œWhat Katy Did”by Susan Coolidge, Chapter Five, 4th last paragraph:

(following a β€˜feast’ in the loft Dorry is not very hungry at tea time) β€œPshaw! only plum sweetmeats and sponge cake and hot biscuit! I don’t want any supper.”

Skye17 Wed 15-Jul-26 23:28:11

It’s not just an American word - I’ve come across it in books written in the UK. E g, it is in a Sherlock Holmes story, The Sign of the Four, and a P G Wodehouse book, Right Ho, Jeeves.
