I received this brochure through the letterbox yesterday

So I wonder, what does granddad do all day ?

He’s in sole charge of outdoors - garden, allotment, rubbish, football with the DGS. He’s discovered his inner chef since he retired, so does most of the cooking and all the hot beverages. He vacs, he does the tiny bit of ironing we still do, He threatens things that need fixing with his hammer. And when he’s finished his chores, he’s got his Northern Soul, his Pop Master, his swimming, his football, whatever other sport crops up and his paper. As well as all the wonderful things he shares with me, of course. smile

This one paints doors, and more doors and more doors .......

Jalima1108 Thu 15-Mar-18 19:41:53

He then 'helped me' cook dinner.
(I was exhausted from my gallivanting)

Jalima1108 Thu 15-Mar-18 19:41:05

Well, I think grin that he's been sanding down paintwork prior to painting.

I, on the other hand, have been gallivanting!

Menopaws has just reminded me that OH is a cricket fanatic too. He stays up all night to watch the international cricket sometimes. He also is a season ticket holder and goes to football matches most Saturdays. Sky Sports goes on first thing in the morning which drives me mad. I go and have my breakfast elsewhere. He follows sport quite keenly so it gives me time to myself. No complaints!

We moved back from Spain 3 months ago. Since then he has redecorated the whole house including the kitchen units. He is now clearing the bottom of the garden for a shed. He is a hard worker but he needs his shed - and so do I.

Grandad is a good 'un. If he didn't snore loudly at night and fall asleep whenever he sits down (well, minor exaggeration) he'd be just about perfect. He does all domestic stuff well (we share chores) and is a keen gardener. He has a go at DIY but knows his limitations. He also loves the GCs and is good with them. He likes exploring and getting out and about and he loves his wine and has become my personal sommelier once the sun is over the yardarm. grin He's a keeper.

Wobblybits Thu 15-Mar-18 18:08:10

He takes no notice of "her indoors", goes fishing, plays in a band, gardens, models, turns, dances (as the picture shows), does all the allocated jobs, looks after GC -- it was easier when I worked.

Happy days!

I was rather thinking of Menopaws and her OH as the couple played by Timothy Spall and the lovely Josie Lawrence in all that long grass and the sheds ?

The granddad here still works fulltime at 74 in order to leave some money for the DGC to buy a house. When he's home he puts out the rubbish washes his work shirts and does things like unblocking the drains.
To relax he reads post Christian theologians. And tries to discuss it with me.

Suzan05 like your DH I too have Polymyalgia, it is so debilitating so do make sure you cut him some slack. They say the illness usually burns out at the 2 year mark, well I am on 21 months and still struggling.

Now let’s get back to the topic of what Grandads do all day.

Menopaws Mon 05-Feb-18 18:06:01

It is priceless and could be any sports club anywhere tbh

lemongrove Mon 05-Feb-18 09:41:05

Meno.......youand DH are now Miriam and Roger! Super!grin
We downloaded these to watch again recently (DH is a cricket fan too.)

Grandpa is 76 but spends at least three days, often more, working on the local steam railway. Won the Volunteer of the Year at Christmas, and intends to go on slaving as long as he can!

This one's at everyone's beck and call! Drove 180 miles over the weekend taking two of them to camps. No peace for the wicked! We often joke how I ever found time to work.

Suzan05 Sun 04-Feb-18 21:14:09

Grandad here is converting a van into a camper van, one of his dreams and a super job he’s doing. Unfortunately it’s never been a dream of mine! Also composes, sings at folk clubs and records folk music......does woodturning.....he’s also married to his iPad. I don’t see much of him so spend my time alone unless I’m away helping with grandchildren. He’s a keen reader too. Having said that he has Polymyalgia Rhumatica which makes his life difficult but he works through it.

Menopaws Sun 04-Feb-18 20:14:44

Believe it or not that was filmed in the next village to us and where we work that ground borders our grounds!
But yes very similar although he isn't quite as much as a control freak as that chap but quite right as I have done all the jobs there too over the years, cleaning, bar manager, catering, grounds maintenance (we used to do the grounds together when we first met and spent an inordinate amount of time in sheds or in long grass ha ha!) so now you will think of as that couple!

My DH watches TV ALL day. Rushes together an evening meal in one pan if possible. I leave home at 06.45 and return at 19.30 - washing still in the washer, sticky working surfaces. If I don't do it it is just left. We have a plastic cement bag stuck on the fence and I asked f2f or it to be put in the bin a week ago - five year old GD and I sorted it today??????

lemongrove Sun 04-Feb-18 19:35:32

Meno sounds like the tv programme Outside Edge!

NfkDumpling Sun 04-Feb-18 19:34:53

ALL the work? John? You shouldn’t be so perfect!

The grandad here has taken over the cooking and the shopping and all the stuff which requires intelligence (he says). He’s a much better cook than me, but that may be because buys better quality stuff.

Menopaws Sun 04-Feb-18 19:28:29

Btw he does nothing useful at home at all

Menopaws Sun 04-Feb-18 19:27:37

although he works full time, the rest of the time is anything to do with cricket, chairman, captain, player, bar manager, mender of clubhouse, massive firework display organiser, committee member, ideas man and everyone's go to. Used to be groundsman and still cuts the hedges and builds fences, clears drains and everything.
At least when he comes home he relaxes and watches tv, oh hold on, Sky sports and cricket from anywhere round the world!
I grew up with a dad who did exactly the same (same club too) so I understand and both sons play and have a sports grounds company between them that looks after..... you've guessed it!
It's actually been a great place to grow up and for ours to grow up, very social and the children learnt to work the bar when too young to be in a pub and that gave them jobs all over the world, so don't mind and if that wasn't his life he'd be here all the time. Aargh

GrandmaKT Sun 04-Feb-18 19:21:11

Grandad here plays good when weather permits (so not much recently!). Plays in the badminton league and for the county over 65s, does most of the cleaning (I still work full time), we share the cooking. He also does lots of computer stuff, builds robots, helps out at a code club....never a dull moment!

Legs55 Sun 04-Feb-18 18:56:16

When we lived in a large house with an equally large garden DH mowed the lawn, helped me when I needed a bit of brute force strength, cleaned bathroom, washed up, shared cooking, cleaned kitchen floor & cleaned windows.

Sadly when we downsized his health deteriorated & gradually I ended up doing everything. He did still enjoy picking out the horses on Saturday but no longer put a bet on & enjoyed watching football scores & occasional live match or highlights.

For the last 5 years I like to think he's sitting on a cloud playing his harpgrin. I still miss our shared lifesad
