What does Granddad do all day ?

This grandad has a train set in his shed and he disappears for hrs on end he put loads of trees up yesterday and says he’s going to take me out tomorrow to see them can’t wait (grin)

Couldn’t wait for myDH to retire as I had so many activities to share with him. BUT he doesn’t get up til 9 am when I wake him, has breakfast in front of tv and remains there and has the tv On most of the day. He came to bowls and bridge with me but doesn’t like the way it’s social rather than competitive, so doesn’t come any more. He plays golf (well) but won’t get up early In the winter when it’s cold and dark, so misses his place on the tee,. He doesn’t want to socialise with old friends and is quite happy to be on his own. This isn’t how I imagined our retirement ?

Mine goes to work, 6am - 4pm, then makes us a cup of tea and sits there until it's dinnertime..........then after he's eaten it, he sits there watching tv until bedtime

Sits on the computer most of the afternoon drooling over steam engines, trams, railways in general, steam boats, you name it. Mind you, he has had some of his very precious photographs reproduced in specialist books

Rufus, I think you have a head start. DH is only 75.

MOnica; You've destroyed my self-confidence and not done much for my inferiority complex, either. Where have I been during my 30 years of retirement?

Well mine is still working - not full time, and it varies from month to month. Two visits to Belgium in June and desk time when home, directs operas, goes to auctions buying stock for our antiques stall, mending things; antiques, household items, watches Montalbana. He has also spent much of the last two years designing and redesigning a planned extension. We live in a listed building and the planners are very picky.

Apart from that, not much!!

Well I’ve enjoyed reading through this thread, though it’s a bit worrying that I didn’t recognise it from last year even when I got to my own contribution!

This Grandad runs a business ( with his long suffering wife) and looks forward to downtimes when he can mess about with his kids and grandkids

Golf, music, Committee work, DIY , gardening, food shopping, swimming, gym, vacuuming, car maintenance, entertaining and/or babysitting grandchildren and lots more!

That's always a dangerous state to be in Wb - boredom!

Having finished her "to do list" I am now bored and ;looking for new project.

He's researching history and creating a powerpoint presentation - he keeps testing my history by asking me questions and sounds surprised when I know the answers
At the moment he is having 'a think' with his eyes shut and is snoring gently at the same time. Multi-tasking.

The Grandad here set up another business to start the day after he 'retired'! He's out of the house even earlier than he used to. It's a business but it's a formalised version of a hobby so he's a very happy man

Still works. Also teaches GC electronics and other technical stuff - that is proving useful although the mess trail might lead you believe otherwise

The resident grandpa here is still working intermittently. when not doing that he is pottering round the house and shed, mending anything that breaks, going to auctions to buy stock for our antique stall, repairing and restoring said buys, singing and directing operas, sleeping, watching antique programmes on the telly, he says to keep abreast of prices and trends, but he often does this with his eyes shut, while breathing heavily

Plays golf, comes home and watches golf videos on YouTube, cos obviously playing it is just not enough Other than that he's perfect, the golf is not all the time, today for instance we are going out for the day and lunching somewhere or other.
