If you ever go walking in France their series bleue is similar scale to our old ordnance survey.

I do have a book of reprints of old county maps of England by Thomas Moule, a Victorian mapmaker, which is interesting.

We've still got our old ordnance survey maps too, but just paper. After we'd returned from a walking holiday I used to sit and go over again the routes we'd walked on these maps.
You needed to be able to use a compass too.

I love maps too, and I have several reproductions of local areas produced by Alan Godfrey Maps. They are interesting because on the reverse there is always a commentary. My map of Birmingham city centre in the early 1900s has a list of all the businesses- including a needlework school, a domestic servants agency, and several tobacconists. The map of the area where I now live, from the same period, shows the appalling density of houses, mostly in “courts” with shared privies and wash houses.

I love maps too. I still have a cloth backed Ordnance
Survey map of the Peak District that my father gave me for my fifteenth birthday (fifty eight years ago?). It was much used but was retired in favour of a laminated, waterproof version. Different gauge though - you knew where you were with one inch to a mile!
