Advice please...9 week old baby ill

Found it - Prevacid, which is a proton pump inhibitor, apparently. My nephew's wife, a midwife, had it for her baby and recommended it when Gaviscon wasn't working. GP was cautious and wanted to keep reviewing progress. My grandaughter had it for 4 weeks then was put back on Gaviscon when things improved.

Probably the same thing when. We can't remember what it was called either.

Me daughter's baby didn't respond to Gaviscon when she had awful reflux, so the GP prescribed something that worked a treat. Neither of us can remember the name of it, though - sorry. Hope it soon gets sorted.

baubles I talked to my daughter this afternoon and she reminded me that she had some sort of super baby gaviscon on prescription to be given before feeds, I think. Hope there is some improvement.

Dearest baubles I can imagine how fraught your daughter must be. It's a natural reaction in the circumstances. Thank goodness that the wee one is to be seen by an expert, and thank goodness that you are there to offer your daughter the comfort of much needed support. My thoughts are with you all.

Marelli it's her second, the first was so easy and is now a toddler, who of course, takes up a lot of her Mum's time. I've tried to reassure DD that looking after a baby and a toddler can be damn hard work and that she has no need to feel guilty. She feels now that she should have made more of a fuss earlier however it isn't always easy to argue against the professionals. (I should add that DD is very assertive and in control of her work life in a very demanding career)

At last though her concerns are being taken seriously so I hope the situation will improve from here. It is hard on everyone, especially the parents, to see a tiny baby in pain and distress.

baubles, this must be so worrying and frustrating for you and your daughter. Is this your daughter's first baby? She'll be needing the support of a health visitor, as the baby is still very young. Have you made a complaint about her?
Like you say, your daughter is feeling needless guilt - at least now the GP is onto the problem and hopefully it will be addressed soon. Let us know how it all goes?

What a worry baubles. This sounds very much like the progress of my grandson's problem. Eventually, my daughter happened to see the GP in the practice who is the acknowledged 'baby' expert (quite why no one told her there was one is baffling!!) He was brilliant and prescribed baby Gaviscon, suggested special formula milk (she wasn't breastfeeding), told her it would get better when he was weaned (it did!) and suggested she start to wean earlier than the guidelines say. He now eats like a trooper (his nickname is doorstop!) and is a real happy chappy.

How worrying for your daughter and you baubles, I think seeing a paediatrician is really important. If the mother of the baby is worried that should be enough for anyone to take notice!

Glad you have some progress at last. If she is still vomiting a lot and only gaining weight slowly she should be checked by a paediatrician.

The story continues. The health visitor has been dismissive of DD's concerns, doesn't return calls and is difficult to get hold of. Baby hadn't been weighed for some time, weighing clinic only once a month! Eventually DD managed to get another health visitor to bring baby scales to her house. The little one hasn't gained much weight so DD was advised to take her to GP where she saw a much more helpful doctor. Baby gaviscon was prescribed and if there is no improvement in a couple of days she will be referred to a paediatrician which is what DD has wanted all along.

My poor DD is is fraught with worry and needless guilt.

baubles I'm relieved to hear that the wee one is beginning to improve.

So glad baby is feeling a bit better. My eldest vomited after every feed...sometimes projectile other times just large possetting until she could sit up. I assume it was something to do with all her stomach muscles strengthening.

Good news - so happy to hear it. (as there isn't a lot of that around this morning!)

Thankfully the little one is showing signs of improvement this morning. Her colour is better and she is more alert.
