Too posh to wash?

Once, before the advent of support staff, nurses accepted that part of their duties included basic patient care; bed baths, bed pans, turning patients, helping them with food and drink. Now it seems the RCN think this is beneath their members.

Do not try to drag me into your childish games. I don't troll and I have never pm'd anyone on GN.

With this level of behaviour, I really have to think whether or not GN is for me.

Good night Orca moon

Orca Wed 24-Apr-13 20:42:38

JO hot and spicy!

Ana Wed 24-Apr-13 20:41:47

I'm not going blue again because I don't like the 'most recent posts' section, which I feel is intrusive. There is no obligation to post your sex if you don't wish to, anyway, so I don't know how everyone going blue would resolve anything.

Orca Wed 24-Apr-13 20:41:19

Very witty greatnan I'm delighted to see your sense of humour emerge! grin
But you obviously don't believe me when I say no PMs about you. I don't like being accused of lying, but I think the fact that you don't believe me speaks volumes about you. I'm glad that you have lots of friends too.
I'm also happy that you feel you are a survivor, though I cannot feel that someone leaving GN is a cause for triumph.

However if I was male I'd probably be tired of all this back biting and 'you said, s/he said' and simply walk away from this. Just to keep the debate open.....good night moon

No photos for me.

Just think it's nice to say if you are a gran or grandad, give an idea of your age, perhaps what neck of the woods you're posting from

Not sure anyone's cares what your favourite pizza topping is.

Sorry if this is irrelevant – I have read only the recent posts, but then they do not seem to have much to do with training nurses. Didn't Orca imply that "he" was a man when HUNTERF jumped to the conclusion that "she" might be a goldigger once the suggestion of meeting (for coffee?) was raised?

Greatnan Wed 24-Apr-13 20:33:47

I need my computer to watch some programmes I have missed but can watch on iportal, so anybody who wants to continue sniping at me will have to do it on their own. grin

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 20:33:17

Everyone was arguing over a quote which was not even what had been said. The RCN did not say that the nurses had better things to do than brush someone's wallies, but that there should be cleaners to clean floors and toilets thoroughly, while the nurses got on with the patients and the paperwork.

The increase in paperwork is another subject.
So is the change from inhouse cleaning squads to outside ones.

Greatnan Wed 24-Apr-13 20:31:37

Doesn't wash, Orca - you actually said - 'or so some people have told me'. I don't see how that can be interpreted any other way than that it was in a pm.
And believe it or not, I have quite a lot of friends as well!

I won't be leaving Gransnet now or in the foreseeable future - there was a period of several months some time ago when every single post I made was met with negative comments from a small group of people. Their intention was clear, but it didn't work. In fact, it was one of them that left.

Why would assuming somebody was a man be an insult? I have five grandsons.

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 20:28:54

Yes, Orca old bean, it all escalated from that.

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 20:27:59

Yes, JO8 It would be better if everyone had at least a minimal blue file. No need to tell your home address and hat size, but a little information is useful.

Do you have a photo yet, jings ? I don't, can't find one I like.

Orca Wed 24-Apr-13 20:27:55

too posh to wash
Was it simply that someone wanted a source/attribution? OMG

whenim64 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:19:44

This isn't the place for sniping at people. Healthy debate works best, and when it gets like this, it's unpleasant and off-putting, so I'm out of here till things improve. sad

j08 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:17:52

Time for everyone to go blue perhaps?

It is reasonable to want to know if you are talking g to a man or woman.

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 20:12:42

ana Somewhere, Orca did say something like "I have every respect for women" which sounds rather like a man.

And someone (I think it was Orca, but I don't remember where and don't want to attribute it in error) was very insistent on one thread on not being assumed to be female.

Orca Wed 24-Apr-13 20:12:39

I didn't make any direct remarks about Greatnan's friends. I simply agreed with her own comments albeit sarcastically, and she took issue to this.
Then she posted "Orca, I am afraid I find several of your comments very impolite. I think you are sailing very close to the wind. We have been very tolerant up to now, but I think some people are beginning to dislike your arrogant, lecturing attitude."
I lifted the 'some people' from her own post. I have not been PMd re Greatnan but drew my conclusions from in forum comments made over the last few weeks.
However, if people do consider I have been arrogant and that I lecture people then perhaps she is correct and if I am so disliked I wouldn't want to inflict my unlikeable personna on others. Strange, as I find I am welcome in most circles and much valued by my family.

whenim64 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:09:36

Can't we keep it polite and friendly? smile

To return to the cause of the stushie, the "too posh" nurses not wanting to help patients with personal things - I have at last found on the RCN site a relevant statement, and it does NOT refer to washing patients.

To quote:-

"Nurses clean wards

Nurses are being forced to clean toilets and mop hospital floors on top of their patient care duties, according to a survey of 1,000 nurses and health assistants by Nursing Times. More than half of NHS nurses surveyed believed cleaning services for their ward were inadequate, while around a fifth said their hospital trust had made cuts to cleaning services in the last year. RCN Infection Control Adviser Rose Gallagher, told the Nursing Times: "This is not about saying nurses are too posh to wash. Cleaning in hospitals is not the same as cleaning your own home”. Rose’s comments were picked up the Daily Mirror, The Daily Mail, BBC News Online, The Daily Telegraph and The Sun."

This is why attributions are important. go back to the source and you find out what was really said.

Ana Wed 24-Apr-13 20:05:43

Or is it supposed to be an insult...? confused

Ana Wed 24-Apr-13 20:03:56

Why is Orca suddenly a man? I ask again, Greatnan - do you have inside knowledge?

Nonu Wed 24-Apr-13 20:02:30

I will leave you to your thoughts .

Sweet dreams

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 20:00:27

There is not always a need to bring light relief. you could remove yourself lightly from the source of the heaviness.

Greatnan Wed 24-Apr-13 20:00:20

I gather that you consider yourself something of a 'Grande Dame' of GN or so 'some people' have told me.

Unless Orca is in personal contact with the people who want to say things about me, he must have been told the above in a pm.

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 19:58:25

The posters on here all have different personalities. They have different ways of expressing themselves. There are quite a lot of posts where I think the opinion could have been better put. There are some posts where I think the poster is a prat, or a troublemaker. I do not then criticise their personalities and accuse them of thinking they are a Grande dame, a universal expert, or a persecuted victim.
