Baby eczema

Good point Nonu - apart from the nappy area I wonder how much bathing a baby truly needs., We are obsessed with washing and cleanliness, but a baby doesn't get dirty and as you say why wash off nature's protective oils?

To me too much bathing is not necessary on these delicate skins .
Washes off the PH balance !

Avoid bubble baths, most soaps and anything with surfactants .
Coconut oil is excellent as is pure olive oil soap. Both available on line.
Steroids inadvisable on face.

Thanks so much for all this advice. GDG is now on antibiotics as eczema infected, but it seems to be calming down now. I shall pass on the suggestions of cuteivate and dream cream - always worth a try! Merry Christmas everyone!

My DGD has bad eczema, but they use a cream from LUSH called dream cream, and it works a treat - better than the emollients from the GP, and is 100% natural ingredients

Like withany I am allergic to some preservatives, thankfully not as many as her. When necessary my GP prescribes preservative free medications. They usually need to be kept in the fridge and come in one dose portions, but they are around. these allergies are not that uncommon.

Hi Pollaidh, I am allergic to the preservative found in many every day items, perfume, that is in anything including soap shampoo, face creams, polish, washing powder, body lotions the list is endless but a topical cream I was allowed to use on my face was cuteivate, it is a very weak steroidal cream, steroid cream thins the skin and should be avoided if possible on the face and neck. I used it on my DGD but her eczema was on her leg, and it made her more comfortable and calmed everything down very quickly.
Is it possible to ask the dermatologist for allergy testing, I am allergic to light UVA and UVB and I have polymorphic eczema, I was in my late 40's before this was properly diagnosed. Now I check ingredients list on all products to avoid the preservative I am allergic to. I had only been tested on the usual pollens and animal things before.
