Bleeding after Mirena coil removal

I read lots of posts on the internet re removal of the mirena coil and frankly dreaded it. Fortunately the GP didn't take much notice of my diversion tactics, the coil was removed last Tuesday after 8 or more years. To reassure, it was straightforward, no pain and no bother after. I'm sure it isn't necessarily straightforward for all but from my experience, it's not bad for all?

No, no, absolutely not!! Men would cry and whimper at the very thought of it. They would absolutely require an anesthetic.

yup, can you imagine a man having a coil inserted up his penis or having it yanked out without an anaesthetic and three days in bed?

Jeepers, talk about medieval torture - "rooting around"; "spiky plastic object dragged through". The things we do!

If you have any concerns, phone NHS Direct and they will give you medical advice. Possibly nothing to be worried about but a call to,them will give you peace of mind.

being post menopausal the vaginal wall thins and can become very dry and this can cause bleeding...a while back i had a ring removed ( prolapse) and i did bleed for a couple of days but it soon settled down.....

A spiky plastic object has been dragged through the very narrow canal in the middle of your cervix . After the menopause it is that bit narrower and the tissues a little more delicate. It has scratched you. Making me wince a bit thinking about it.

If the bleeding hasn't settled down by morning, or gets any worse, then I might do that, though to be honest I don't really see any point phoning my GP as I am quite sure that he would say what you suggested (and what I suspect myself), that it is "to be expected", then his usual mantra of "if things haven't settled down in a few weeks time, make an appointment to see me".

Can't help I'm afraid - but I guess if someone has been rogering about, then a bit of bleeding might be expected. Can you organise a quick call to GP (or whoever it was who removed it) to feed back what has happened and seek reassurance?
