"My OH has PD and along with this comes REM sleep disorder, which is when people act out their dreams because they are not paralysed as we normally are during that phase of sleep. It is fine if he is having a delightful dream but not if he is fending off aliens. He attacked me in my sleep the other night and it was very frightening indeed - I thought he was going to break my arm. I had to scream at him to wake him up. It is a bit worrying to say the least, but it only happens 3 or 4 times a year. I just hope it gets no worse as the disease progresses."
I posted the above inappropriately on another thread and would like to respond to "Flickety's" reply. I am sorry that your OH does this too - it is indeed very scary. This is the first time he has been directly violent to me - on the previous occasions he as just shouting out and thrashing about, which seemed bad enough at the time, but seems like nothing now.
There is a drug to treat this, but unfortunately when he tried it some time ago it turned him into a zombie during the day.
I do not think my OH realises how concerned I am about this - he knows that (in his normal state) he would not dream of harming me, but forgets that when he does this, he is not his normal self and has no control over his actions.
I am considering talking to the PD nurse about what I should do.
You can google the subject Flickety - there are lots of sites about it.

Relatively new here so an introduction.
