Sun block recommendation

Most of the major sun screen manufacturers do a factor 50 for face which I also now use on my neck and chest.

My dermatologist prescribed some for me, gagagran, but it was sticky and unpleasant. The pharmacist said any factor 50 would be as good. Think I had Nivea for children in the end.

I thought I had found a good one on a web site for sailing enthusiasts, but found it took my nail polish off, so reflected on what it might do to my skin. Children's sunblocks are often made for use in water, so I like to use them myself as I have had a melanoma excised and had several lesions also removed. Also, Gagagran, do wear a wide-brimmed hat. I have quite a collection, most of them bought when I'd forgotten to take one with me.

Thanks for the tips - think I might go with the Nivea 50 for kids. Also will look out for a wide brimmed hat anno. The daft thing is I always avoid the direct sun and seek the shade as I am fair skinned. This has been a lesson to be even more careful.

L'Oreal's spray-on one. I use their thick white one mixed with foundation in the summer, which is very effective, but on its own it is too white. Then last year a friend told me about their spray, also factor 50, and it's brilliant. It dries to a nice smooth finish and isn't white. It was almost 40C last year in the south of France and I still managed to come back white. I have a very fair skin and have had skin cancer in the past.

DH has had skin cancer and he uses Ultra sun. His surgeon told him that factor 30 was adequate in UK but had 50 for India and Africa.
