A few weeks back he was complaining of dizziness, so finally went to Docs, who made an appointment for hospital for tests , went Tuesday gone , put him on treadmill, worked him really hard , than an ECG. gave him tablets , one of which was a statin .
By the next day he was beginning to feel a little rough, but carried on as usual . Last night he was feeling really, really rough , retching, raging headache and chest pains . you can imagine what I was thinking ! phoned the out of hours doctor who vaguely calmed things down . I thought right that's it so this morning I phoned surgery for a home visit , this duely happened and do you know what Doc said that the tablets he had been given had probably set off his ulcer , which started bleeding several years ago and is/was under control , but keep taking the tablets hospital prescribed , well it seems a bit much to me that some drug he is prescribed sets off his stomach . It is terrible to see him like I could absolutely cry my eyes out , but have to be in control as I don"t want to panic him any more !
The only saving grace is that his heart is okay , thank God !
Sorry I have been a bit long winded , but it has been good for me to get it down in black and white

X to Glam

Don"t like to drag up old posts , but view of all your kind wishes thought I would give you the final outcome.
He went to docs yesterday for blood pressure check 118/71, as the nurse said people would kill for a reading like that He returned home and I feel on top of the world !
Turns out that the asprin given to him at hospital was the worst possible. thing they could have done with his ulcer . His chest pains were not his chest in fact , it was the ulcer as a result of asprin . Someone had not read his notes properly , rather bad really . Anyway what has gone has gone.
He is back to his lovely old self and so can you can imagine my feelings to see him happy and well !
Again thank you so much for your wishes , they were so much appreciated.
Love
smilesmile

Well that is good to hear. I would reiterate the need for this problem to be highlighted on his medical records. Hope he continues to improve.

Will do Janeowena , thank you for that tip !

Please make the doctors make a note of it on his medical history so that no-one else does it in future. Then maybe once they have centralised all the information, if he ends up in hospital for some reason, they won't make the same mistake again.

Just a small update , don"t want to bore you you and said I would and also this has been good for me to get it down in black and white .
DH this morning , to use his words "feels a lot ruddy better than he did "smile made me feel great !
He had the results of his blood test - fine. ECG - fine so that is all good !
BUT I am still going to get onto the hospital 1st thing Monday morning, because I KNOW he had an acute reaction to the meds , and it is not good enough, [he has now stopped taking them]. I was so scared Thursday night [daft old bat]. in fact couple of friends and children said you should have dialled 999,still hindsight is a wonderful thing !
Hopefully I can give good news next time I post , as I don"t think he is quite out of the woods yet !
Thanks a million for all the messages of support , you are the best.
X

We've been staying with DD1 in NW Florida and she doesn't have wifi so I have only just been catching up with all of you. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's ill health. What a worry for you Nonu. I send best wishes to you both. flowers

Mishap Sat 15-Mar-14 14:11:57

Sorry to hear this tale of woe and hope that things will improve for your DOH.

The whole question of drug treatments and weighing up their benefits against their risks is so problematical. I am supposed to have 6 monthly injections for my osteoporosis - but am very reluctant because they can rot your jaw bones, make you sick, cause spontaneous hi fractures and b*** up your immune system. I am also in lots of pain with arthritis, but resist taking anything stronger than paracetamol because of potential problems with my already dicey guts.

It is a big dilemma for many of us as we grow older and our bodies start to produce more problems.

Good luck to you both.
