Allergies

I started reading this thread and thought I'd got a few suggestions, but you've all pipped me to the post!
I think it's particularly bad this year, I've been sneezing and clearing my throat for about three weeks now, and it doesn't usually bother me.

I have also heard that eating local honey helps with hay fever

Interesting theory about the honey wonder , I love honey anyway so it will be a pleasure to test that

I heard that eating locally produced honey is supposed to be good as it helps build up a tolerance to local allergens. It might be worth popping into health shop to see if they have any remedies that might help. I find that different anti histimines work better than others at various times of the year so might be worth trying other types to see if it makes any difference. A regular steam inhalation might help too especially if sinuses are getting blocked. Hopefully, it won't last for too long.

We are surrounded by fields of rape at the moment and I have terrible itchy eyes, dry nose and dry mouth. Only another week according to the farmers (one of whom is also allergic to it). The vaseline does work a bit, but doesn't help with the eyes. I hate the colour of it too, it is much too harsh for the landscape.
Where my son lives in Spain they have a special school at the seaside when the olive trees have their pollen. The allergic teachers take all the allergic children off for a few weeks.

Another tip I've heard is not to dry your bedlinen outdoors since pollen will settle on it. I too keep the window closed at night, much against my principles. The birch catkins are still there and the prevailing wind brings them straight to me.

Yes, G***k is confusing hay fever and colds, and point three is incomprehensible anyway. What are we not to summary at night and how can we avoid it? Does loss clothing help with weight loss?

I have these symptoms, too. My car is covered in tree pollen. I live on the edge of a wood and have to walk through trees whatever direction I go in. I use Otrivine nasal spray before bedtime so I can sleep ok and take an anti-histamine each day during times like this. It's only tree pollen that seems to have this effect.

Easily done. I've had a stuffed up nose for a few weeks. Keep thinking it's a cold but must be the pollens.

Do you think garreetc has got a bit confused between colds and hay fever.

Vaseline round the nostrils and up the nose definitely worth a try.

If you can afford it, leave the country, otherwise maybe go back to the doctor and discuss any other antihistamines. If you need to drive I guess it limits choice to non-drowsy ones.

I second the advice MiniMouse has given re Vaseline. I also keep my bedroom window closed at night. Hope you feel better soon anno

First if you feel ill and never sure always contact your doctor. It may sound like flu but i am not a doctor. If this is flu you actually will feel awful bad head coughs and runny nose

Try This :

1. A shower at night prior to bed
2. Drink lots of hot drinks if your not really a diabetic then Orange juice
is okay and drink them regular
3. Don't summary at night as this may cause a temp always employ loss clothing
4. Seek advice from your doctor to see if you can take drugs and which ones is ok to consider
5. Do not take any over-the-counter medication until you have spoken to a doctor or pharmacist as some treatments are not good for some people
6. For those who have a blocked nose try steam inhalation this helps the congestion but do not get it to hot and be careful

I have no idea if this works, but it may be worth a try. I've heard somewhere that, if you smear Vaseline or similar around the opening of your nostrils, it will catch some of the pollen/allergen before you breathe it in. Obviously not foolproof and couldn't possibly stop all the pollen/allergen, but it may offer a little relief.

absent, when I was in Christchurch in springtime, I found that NZ had some powerful allergens, not known in UK! On medical advice (sister), I got a different anti-histamine which was only slightly more effective. Aka, I'm going south today so no doubt will encounter the yellow peril too. Once when I was driving up the M1, I found that I was wheezing inexplicably. Then I came over the brow of a hill and saw the culprit - oil seed rape as far as the eye could see.

I sympathise Anno. I've had acute sinusitis for a week or so, I always get it at this time of year. Yesterday the penny dropped when out driving.

My GS (3) suddenly shouted 'custard fields' and there as far as we could see were fields of rape in full flower.

I empathise Anno - I use flixonase, opticrom and cetirizine permanently but at this time of year I would quite like to live in a bubble!

I have never previously been affected by tree pollen but the small town where I now live is surrounded by pine forests. I was very puzzled by similar, but milder symptoms like yours until I realised what was causing the problem when I noticed how coated the car was with yellow dust. Sorry, I can't suggest anything better than anti-histamines and keeping windows shut.
