Suncream No Real Protection?

I also wonder what future effect all the chemicals the sunscreens contain may have.

I use as near natural as possible with titanium dioxide as the sunscreen.

I thought the basis on which sunscreen has been sold all these years was to stop your skin burning.

It's only relatively recently that we've all become more aware of the risks of developing skin cancer and I don't think anyone has claimed that using sunscreen s guaranteed to prevent it.

My understanding is, that people think because they've applied sunscreen that they are safe to stay in the sun as long as they like!

Unfortunately the best protection is to cover up. C&A used to sell a range of cheap silk men's shirts of which I had a good stock. However, C&A very sadly exists no longer in this country and I can't find any substitute for those shirts. A wide brimmed hat is essential - my melanoma was on the back of my neck.

Didn't they think at one time that skin cancer came from sun burnt skin? I',m pretty sure they did which is why it was referred to as 'protection' against damage caused by exposure to the sun.

Staying in the shade and covering up won't help as I found out; I haven't had melanoma but have had two skin cancers caused by sun damage - yet with my colouring, I've never sunbathed or sat out in it, I've stayed in the shade, hat on the lot. Apparently, as the rays bounce around you and off buildings, you can still get 'hit' by them.

Can't win can we!
