Aphasic migraine

Poor girl - one migraine that I had (whilst on the mini-pill) made me temporarily lose my sight - that was scary! No more pill for me!

All my family have migraine with aura - and weirdly, some have aura without the pain - so we are used to strange sight problems but no-one has ever had stroke-like symptoms. My DDs were told to be very careful about which type of contraceptive pill they use as the risk of strokes for migraine sufferers can increase with some. A bit worrying.

The first migraine that I ever had started with me getting words mixed up and talking rubbish, much like your DD. It then went on to a numb side to my face and blurred vision. I was in the maternity ward at the time, a few days after giving birth. They were concerned about a possible TIA or a stroke, but I was cleared of that.

My own worries subsided as soon as I started to get zigzag patterns across my field of vision, because my mother was prone to migraines and that was one of her warning signals. After a good night's sleep in a darkened room I felt fine.

I had that once- I hadn't realised my awful headaches were migraines as I had no aura etc, but woke up with headache gone, but unable to string a sentence together - it only happened the once, but afyer that tine did start getting the jaggy lines etc

Having had traditional migraine since my teens I finally gave in a few years ago and began taking prophylactic tablets - and they have revolutionised my life. I truly wish I'd begun taking them years ago. However, I now regularly get a painless migraine that consists of jagged lines in my field of vision that render me incapable of seeing properly for twenty minutes or so at a time. It's still much preferable to what I experienced previously, but disappointing when I thought I'd conquered the monster. Ho hum.
