Smoking...Should It Be Banned?

Today It was announced That Peaches Geldorf Daughter Of Sir Bob
Died of an Overdose Of Heroin Rather Than The Belief she Had Committed Suicide.
Any Death Surely Results In a Sense Of Loss and Grief For Those Still Alive.
Therefore It Is For a Good Reason That Heroin For Example Is Illegal in Britain
Even Though People Still Use It To Sell To Others
Who Like Peaches Become Addicted
And in many cases End Up Dying as a Result of An Overdose.
Anyone Therefore That Would Argue against the law On Heroin Would Surely Find That They would be arguing in vain.
After all Heroin Doesn't Do Anyone Any good.
What About Cigarettes?
It Is One of the Biggest Causes of Preventable Deaths Every year
And it spoils the environment in that the roads and pavements Become Unofficial Ashtrays and Dustbins for fag butts and empty cigarette boxes.
But Unlike Heroin, Cigarettes are legal and widely available For Everyone To Use.
Do You Think It Is Right for it to remain Legal?
Remember That It Damages Health and causes huge amounts of deaths each year...Therefore Like Heroin It Isn't something that is in the best interests of the public.
If You were Minister Of Health For Britain Would You Call for it to be Banned one and For All?
or Allow people To carry on Damaging Their Health So That Cigarette Companies can rake in billions in Profit While Their Customers Die before their Due Time Each Year?
please share your Thoughts.
Thanks.
PS I'm An Ex Smoker.

Don't let it get to you Trevor - they're just forum members, the same as you are.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:49:44

Thank you Holly.
Again I feel emotional now...its like I get a virtual slap across my face and then a pat on the shoulder from Holly and Phoenix.
I shouldn't be so sensitive but I can't help it.
Thanks Holly and Phoenix

OK sorry gran if I mistook your contribution.
I'm just feeling rather Hurt by so many of the comments tonight
so forgive me please for my reaction to your post.

HollyDaze Wed 23-Jul-14 22:45:27

No, I don't think she is Trevor - it's a well-known poem that shows how spellcheckers can get it very wrong so it's not a good idea to rely on them.

People can understand what you post, don't worry about it - it's a public forum, not an English language correspondence course, so if you want to post and talk about things you are comfortable with, go ahead and post. I also like reading your posts.

Anne58 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:41:59

No Trevor , you've taken that the wrong way! The "poem" granura quoted was one the often comes up on here as a sort of example of how odd/weird/strange/difficult language can be.

Only the other day my husband & I were talking about the word "object", as it can mean an item, or a goal as in "the object of the exercise" or to be opposed to something.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:32:33

Gran
I get the feeling you were being patronizing?
If so I think its uncalled for and very unfair.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:30:55

are you enjoying this im 64?
I feel hurt by much of the comments on here today ; 0 (

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:28:18

Hit me with your rivem stick?

granjura Wed 23-Jul-14 22:17:40

Trevor, a spell checker is great, but no panacea- A spellchecker does not understand context- and will accept any word which is correct in the English language, even if totally wrong where it is used:

I have a spelling checker
It came with my Pea See
It highlights for my review
Missed steaks I cannot sea.

I ran this poem thru it
I'm sure your pleased to no
Its letter perfect in it's weigh

whenim64 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:07:19

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:03:21

I'm sorry if I offended anyone on Here
That never was my intention.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 22:01:03

I Agree Phoenix
and Thanks for the Reminder.
I hope you sleep well.
I'm about to call it a day.
so Hope to hear from you Another Time.
kind regards
Trevor

janerowena Wed 23-Jul-14 22:00:11

Quite. People who disagree with your point of view make you stop and think about why you think as you do.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 21:59:34

Thanks Jane
But sadly I feel hurt by what I feel were unfair comments by certain posters.
I'm quite a sensitive guy and so I basically feel emotional easy and right now feel close to crying.
I'm not ashamed to admit That.
It would have been so easy to withdraw as the tension was starting to build up but I decided to stick around cause I have done nothing wrong except speak about things I can relate to.
and From what I can see you and a few others have made me feel welcome and appreciated and I thank you for that Jane.
sweet dreams
From Trevor.

Trevor no one persons posts are universally agreed with, appreciated or accepted! That, as they say is the nature of the beast!

I post rambling stuff about cats, incidents with wheelie bins and unfortunate events on trains, along with heartfelt stuff about people claiming benefits. Some members will like some of my posts, but as the old saying goes "you can't please all of the people all of the time"

janerowena Wed 23-Jul-14 21:46:26

You have certainly livened up the board, Trevor. I enjoy your posts.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 21:41:40

That's OK Phoenix no offense Taken and your suggestion is appreciated.
PS I am aware that my posting on here hasn't been accepted and appreciated by all
but that's Fine Phoenix
I Have other interests in My Life and so no probs.
good night.

Anne58 Wed 23-Jul-14 20:54:07

Trevor , just a gentle word, you seem to have started a lot of threads, which is great, and shows enthusiasm, but perhaps you might think about joining in with and posting on others threads that are currently active?

Kindly meant.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 16:46:12

no
I didn't try a spell checker.
but I think I should.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 16:45:28

OK Thanks Soutra.
Honestly I am ignorant regarding writing and thats why it shows in what i have written so far.
obviously I dont do it to upset anyone
its just a lack of basic education on my part.

Soutra Wed 23-Jul-14 16:42:47

Have you tried using a spellchecker? Apart from proper names ( people and places, occasionally titles) you really only need a capital letter at the start of a new sentence.

Trevor47 Wed 23-Jul-14 16:31:06

its cause i never learned how to write properly hene.
