Insect bites

I have awful problems with mozzie bites, Wolliegran. They home in on me if I garden in the evening. I find rubbing the bites with Tea Tree Oil cleansing wipes helps to reduce the itching.

I'm not sure who makes the Tea Tree Oil wipes but you can get them in supermarkets and they're in a green pack.

I find Anthisan cream stops the itching. If used immediately it prevents any swelling, stinging or itching. Recently this has worked for me instantly with wasp stings and horsefly bites. I now carry a tube with me at all times!

In the absence of any other remedy, a squirt of hand sanitizing gel gives temporary relief.

Last year I had a very nasty bite on my calf. The pharmacy here suggested keeping it swabbed with medicinal alcohol, and covered with a dry gauze dressing. This kept it reasonably comfortable - but it took a while to heal completely.

Horse fly bites can turn nasty, apart from the immediate impact of itching and swelling. They can become infected, so watch out for that.

Some ideas here might be worth trying Wolliegran

I use oily Germolene with a sticking plaster over it to keep it from getting rubbed off onto clothes etc. It has a surface anaesthetic in it which works for a while. However, I react to the glue in a lot of plasters, particularly when the bite has already sensitised me, so sometimes that just makes two red patches to flank the bite.

I dab mozzie bites with TCP, works for me !

I agree about Anthisan - it also works for nettle stings!

I tried one of those clicker things because somebody recommended it. Found it completely pointless, so it's back to Anthisan. Bitey insects seem very active at the moment!

Apart from making you smell like a chippy, vinegar helps relieve itching.
