Strep B and post menopausal bleeding

Hello,
I posted this in a seperate thread but one of the kind ladies suggested I posted a new thread as I have another question.
(This was my previous question)... I hope everyone doesn't mind me posting on here as I'm not a grandma but my mum is and that's what my question is about.
She's 55 and has gone through the menopause. However, last week when we were on holiday, she had a bleed on one day. Prior to that she had 4 days of discharge and after she had a blood tinged greeny discharge with no odour which is still happening, though it seems to be getting less.
We got back yesterday and today she has gone to the doctor. The doctor didn't really say what it could or couldn't be but did say that it is very uncommon for post menopausal bleeding which panicked my mum.
The doctor did a smear and took swabs and said that she could see that there was blood still and she bled some more with the smear. She gets the results back in 48 hours and the smear results in a few weeks. In the meantime she will be having a scan apt date in a few weeks.
I'm riddled with anxiety as to what it could be - I've searched for ages on the internet and loads of things are coming up that it is cancer.
She has absolutely no other symptoms apart from the bleeding.
Has anyone had anything like this before? Any help or advice would be so appreciated.

Since posting the thread above, my mother has had one batch of her results back and apparently she has Strep B. However, it supposedly doesn't cause bleeding and still needs a scan etc. Has anyone had this before? Does anyone know if it is a sign of underlying serious problems?

Any replies will be gratefully received.
Thank you so much smile

I had similar symptoms earlier this year. Intermittent bleeding..never a huge amount but definitely there. Very watery discharge.

Turned out to be polyps. If the swab shows no infection she needs to ask to be referred to the gynae unit at the local hospital. If it is polyps she'll have them removed either whilst awake and leave straight away or she'll go in as a day patient.

Her GP sounds very unsympathetic. I was told that the majority of post-menopausal bleeding has benign causes.

I am no expert, but I would be reassured by the fact that there is an infection. If this is the cause of her symptoms, she can be treated. Obviously she will need to go through the referral to rule out other causes, so you still have a wait. flowers

Strep B is an infection, and antibiotics should clear it. The scan will be to make absolutely sure that the Strep B is the only problem. She should feel better after a few days on antibiotics.
