Has anyone else tried the delicious coconut water (not the milk but the clear-ish water) Not sure of the benefits but very thirst quenching.

Oooh yes !! Delicious stuff. When DD lived in Hainan we often had this as a drink when out and about. The coconut was opened, a straw put in and that was that. The coconut was then thrown away. Sometimes kids would go up the palm to get a really fresh one. Cost was a few pence.

Half a century ago, I was sitting outside a café in Malindi on the Kenya coast, drinking the juice of a fresh coconut through a straw, when a German tourist asked me in German if it tasted good. Unthinkingly, I answered,'Ndio' - 'Yes', in Swahili! It was most refreshing.

I always loved it. My mother loved coconut, so did my sisters. All I wanted was the liquid.

I have also had a drink of coconut juice through a straw when on holiday in Sri Lanka.
Earlier this year we were on holiday in India. One of the managers from the hotel took us on a walk to show us round the gardens of the hotel and the local village. One stopping point was a large hut where ladies took the white of the coconut. It is weighed before processing and they are charged accordingly. The white is then compressed and oil comes out. It is pressed for a second time and the ladies take the oil and the remaining dry white flesh is used for cattle feed. Nothing seems to be wasted.

Same here janerowena I only wanted the water from the middle of the coconut. I love it still now and have found it on the supermarket shelves. Quite expensive but delicious. It is high in potassium though and wonder whether I should be drinking it as much with my Losarten Potassium medication. May have to ask GP
