The bearded lady

Does anyone have a solution for those wretched hairs that grow on your chin once you are past the menopause. I am tired of tweezering them out and swear they multiply daily. There has to be a way of eradicating them once and for all, just don't know what it might be.

I too used to have electrolysis from about age 40, but my very well qualified lady's eyesight began to go after a few years treatment, so I had to go to a modern young lady in a salon. However, I noticed after a while that I was getting scarring (she seemed to do it much more quickly) so I have given up and now get the tweezers out with my reading glasses and magnifying glass. IjJust try and ignore the huge wrinkles on the rest of my face!
I dont understand how they suddenly seem to be so long, when I didn't see them a couple of days ago!
And the eyebrow hairs are going too long too! And some are going silver. shock

I use tweezers daily - the hairs seem to be getting weaker.
My Mum used diluted bleach on her upper lip and it did kill the growth. But she found it also affected her sense of smell , though that does go with age too.

You're very lucky, Flickety. My hair seems to be migrating from everywhere else to my top lip, with the occasional random excursion to my chin and throat. Has anyone tried one of the very expensive devices - use some kind of light, I think?

I've just discovered one on my earlobe shock!

Icyalittle Mon 06-Oct-14 21:57:46

Cor, the Wizzit from Amazon costs as much in postage / delivery as the item. I'm too mean!

Ana Mon 06-Oct-14 22:02:36

Try e-bay

Wizzit

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 22:11:41

I've just ordered two Wizzits Ana, (on your head be it! Instead of on my chin!) as it was better value than paying the postage!
#Nofliesonme.

I feel I must issue a disclaimer here!

This method of hair removal is by no means painless - but it is effective! grin

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 22:18:19

grin I'm such a trusting soul!

Ana Mon 06-Oct-14 22:25:28

Actually, I've just had a quick go with mine and it is virtually pain-free on the chin area. You just have to steel yourself a bit for the moustache deforestation, but it's worth it! grin

Lona Mon 06-Oct-14 22:48:39

Well, it can't be any more painful than having it threaded! I'm fed up of staggering out of Superdrug with tears streaming! hmm

Icyalittle Mon 06-Oct-14 22:49:10

Thanks for the link Ana, that's more reasonable. I'm still mean, but placated. wink

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 22:52:21

I've just ordered one from that link. Carrier collected my dud one today.

Will not pluck until it arrives (to give it a good test)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 22:52:54

Yes, that's cheaper than I paid before. Thank you Ana.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 22:54:04

Oh yes! That last one was from Amazon. I get a bit confused between the two of those.

Coolgran65 Mon 06-Oct-14 23:07:53

Great information here. I also use tweezers on chin and upper lip every few days. Chin hairs are about a dozen and reappear in the same spot, really strong. As I'm going on holiday and have a waxing appointment arranged for Thursday they've been allowed to how for the last week.

I think I shall order this whizzit, just off to have a look

Katek Mon 06-Oct-14 23:09:20

Beautician! Waxed in seconds and lasts for ages but I have quite fine hair.

Maggiemaybe Mon 06-Oct-14 23:39:42

Right, can we keep this thread discussion going now please? I definitely feel the need for a Wizzit, but am slightly off put by Ana's mention of by "no means painless" hmm. I'm a wimp, I need more precise and varied descriptions of the pain involved before I take the plunge. I'll keep tweezing till all of your Wizzits have arrived and you've rated them on the official depilation agony scale.

Nelliemoser Mon 06-Oct-14 23:45:40

I have had lot of electrolosis over the years it's a family problem.
Quite painful. I have known the woman in the salon for about 25 yrs now and she is lovely. Also in recent years she has done some laser treatment which is more expensive but less painful and no good on white hairs.

Nelliemoser Mon 06-Oct-14 23:51:08

brendawymms It's only the laser treatment that needs the hair to be dark it does not matter with Electrolosis .

Electrolosis is uncomfortable but so is having a bad facial hair problem.

It has been worth it.

My whizzy thing is due to arrive today. I'm pretty clueless on gadgets and a wimp with pain. I'll let you know * Maggie* how things go. I haven't plucked for a day or two so I'll have something worthwhile to practice on hmm

Charleygirl Tue 07-Oct-14 09:13:16

I have ordered an Epistick epilator which is due to arrive today. How can they survive as it cost me £1 with free delivery. I will see how I manage. Maggie sorry to tell you but I had to give up the Whizzit as the pain scale for me was too high. Are you and I the only two in the "wimp" camp?

annsixty Tue 07-Oct-14 09:21:39

At last I feel normal and no longer ready to join the circus.I am ordering today.

annodomini Tue 07-Oct-14 09:45:01

Anya, you'll feel a little 'nip' when each hair is plucked out, but it doesn't last and the results are worth it.

Anya Tue 07-Oct-14 09:53:05

My gran used to say 'pride suffers no pain' anno I'll try to bear that in mind, but my eyes are watering already and the whizzy thing hasn't been delivered yet!
