The bearded lady

Does anyone have a solution for those wretched hairs that grow on your chin once you are past the menopause. I am tired of tweezering them out and swear they multiply daily. There has to be a way of eradicating them once and for all, just don't know what it might be.

Thank you Lona. I'm somewhat out of action for a few months because I've had the "correction". So physically rather weak but emotionally very good.

Nellie, it's a worry!

Jane as Nellie said, a hairy chin is not quite as bad (or even as itchy!) as our affliction blush

My Wizzit came today, but I've not got any batteries to fit, and I'm stuck in with a very 'handyman' who is fixing my leak!
Tomorrow I shall hopefully be hairless.

MaryXYZ nice to 'see' you again, I hope your life is going well.

I swear by electrolysis as well. Will keep it up as long as I can get to my lady. My mother is one of those who plays with the hairs on her chin so it is on the list of things my daughter must not allow, along with pop sox worn with skirts.

I solved this problem by sporting a light beard and sportive moustache, but appreciate that this solution may not be suitable for all members. I have noticed, however, that Her Holiness wields a deft pair of tweezers on unwelcome visitors. It works very well but really makes my eyes water!

I use Eflora cream, also sold as Vaniqa. It's expensive to use twice a day, but facial hair removal is particularly important for me. I do still shave every day but the cream stops most of the regrowth. I also use a Braun silk-épil 7 elsewhere and sometimes for catching the odd longer hair on my face. This combination is working well for me.

I think that's the one I ordered too Annabelsnan and it's just arrived. Came very quickly. Will summon courage to try it. Soon.

Oh I see! Sorry, I misunderstood, not sure how...blush

Charleygirl Thu 09-Oct-14 12:59:09

Ana I did not want or need my eyebrows dyed- this to me was a silly comment by the very young beautician.

Ana Thu 09-Oct-14 12:43:07

Charleygirl, I don't understand your post. What colour did you think would be best for your eyebrows?

annodomini Thu 09-Oct-14 12:36:50

I am beginning to think I have inherited my father's bushy eyebrows and now there are white hairs infiltrating the brownish ones. Should I take the risk of having them dyed?

[hastilygooglingvaginitis]

Oh thank goodness kittylester! I thought it was some weird kind of disease where hairs grew inside and needed plucking!

You do meet such new and exciting diseases on this board. hmm

Ana Thu 09-Oct-14 11:54:12

Not if you use a mirror, Nelliemoser! grin

Nelliemoser Thu 09-Oct-14 11:52:00

Veet etc really irritates my skin. I am afraid I doubt if many of these gadgets would really work effectively, it's hard to see what you are doing when it's on your own face.

Nelliemoser Thu 09-Oct-14 11:48:54

kittylester I have worried about that as well. It's a far worse prospect than a few hairs on the chin. I doubt if a basic care assistant would be allowed to do that.

Charleygirl Thu 09-Oct-14 11:28:40

My hair can be described as a silvery white but my eyebrows are still brown. When I went for eyebrow and lip threading a couple of weeks ago I was offered dyeing of my eyebrows. I enquired the colour and was told brown! Perhaps she needs a trip to Specsavers.

I don't have a problem with chin hair (yet) but there is something odd going on with my eyebrows. Every so often I find a VERY long hair smack between my eyes and another, much coarser, one in the middle of my right eyebrow.

They appear to sprout to great lengths overnight. I'll have to try to remember to check my face in a magnifying mirror before leaving the house.

Valbeasixties Thu 09-Oct-14 06:14:03

Having dark hair, I always felt that I had a slight upper lip shadow and used Jolen bleach to disguise it. However, around the menopause I became aware that the hair was increasing and becoming coarser and I had several long hairs on my chin. I tried waxing, tweezing and a little sandpaper type block which I don't think is available now. 8 years ago I began having electrolysis on the advice of a friend and I now have hardly any hair at all. My daughter has promised me that if I end up in care home she will make sure that she brings tweezers each time she visits!

Lona Wed 08-Oct-14 15:26:40

That looks a real instrument of torture hmm

janerowena Wed 08-Oct-14 11:22:27

This is even cheaper, 99p and no postage.

But it sounds excruciating. No doubt at some point soon I shan't care.

Coolgran65 Wed 08-Oct-14 00:30:14

So funny.....laugh out loud stuff.

Elegran Tue 07-Oct-14 22:58:08

The link to that was going the rounds about a year ago. The reviewers must have had a great time doing all that "creative writing". I wonder whether it sent sales of "Veet for Men" away down or had so many viewers that the publicity helped put sales up

Charleygirl Tue 07-Oct-14 22:37:18

Elegran I have never read that before and I found it so funny. I do not think that I would apply it to my lower and nether regions.

Marelli Tue 07-Oct-14 22:18:53

I tried a hair removal cream on my upper lip and chin last week. Never again for me either, Lona! I ended up with 2 little spots on my upper lip and another one on my chin ( I discovered that one while chatting at the Edinburgh meet up on Sunday) shockblush! Haven't had spots since my teens. So it's back to my Epilady again, now.
