I have seen an advert for an acid reflux pillow and wonder if anyone has used one, are they comfortable and do they help ? They are quite expensive so I want to be sure before ordering one.

Sorry harrigran I've never heard of one.

Never heard of one - presumably they just make you sit up a bit more - I can think of very cheap ways of achieving that!

Are they the wedges? I had acid reflux caused by a hole punched through my stomach from taking Diclofenac for too long. I looked at the wedges and thought they were rather expensive, so grabbed a whole load of old towels, folded them and raised just my side of the bed with them, so that instead of a wedge my whole body was on a slope. Then I used three pillows. I also found that I couldn't sleep on my right side at all.

It has wonderful side benefits too - it meant that DBH could no longer try to hog the whole bed, as he just rolled back gently to his own side!

What Mishap said grin

I found that too many pillows raised my head but not shoulders, so that my neck was twisted. Raising the head of the bedwould have meant lifting it - very heavy - while shoving something under the legs. Putting a pillow or folded blankets under the head of the mattress had the same effect as raising the whole head of the bed, and I can still use two pillows on top of the mattress to get even higher, without ending up with a stiff neck.

I have tried something similar but found no relief at all. The only thing that helps me with acid reflux is Zantac.

Thanks for your input, I have tried all sorts of combination of pillows and discounted lifting head of bed as it is king size and extremely heavy. The product I looked at said it was used by NHS and care homes so I thought it might help.

I just put mine under the mattress.

If it makes life easier for you than all the towel-folding, then go for it. I was worried that it would be too narrow and if my head came off it, it would be like falling off a cliff as it has quite defined edges. I suppose the worst that could happen is that you would wake up.

The wedge is exactly the same width as a pillow so shouldn't really fall off it. Still doing research.

If you do get one, I would be interested to know how you get on with it. I was worried that a sudden steep rise would give me backache.

The slope is very gentle I believe.
