There are various techniques for aborting a bout of SVT and these are easily found on the net. The best one I use is to pretend I am delivering a 12 pound baby - but it is better to be sitting on the loo at the time!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I've only just begun to get active on Gransnet and this has been very helpful. Good to talk to others who have this problem. I've had a few bouts of it at night recently and I'm not popular with my piano technique then. smile

Drink of ice cold water sometimes works. I had this problem during menopause but, fortunately, it passed. I get the extra heartbeat thing occasionally though. Hope some of the suggestions on here help.

Try holding your nose and straining as though giving birth going to the loo. Holding something under your nose that makes you sneeze can also help.

DH used to get regular bouts of SVT until he was put on verapamil and he's fine now.

Yes I get the odd burst associated with a mitral valve regurgitation (another Lupus legacy). I had various tests including an ECHO but the consultant not prescribed for this. I juts rest until it goes away. it has done it to me a couple of times on the golf course but I think its because I'm tense. I always take my phone with me in case its more serious. I think on the whole its more scary thatn problematic. I hope you are OK today Lupin - how wonderful to be able to play the piano and self sooth. flowers

I heard that a sudden shout or clap of your hands can do the trick. That's best done on your own of course. Others could think you've developed Tourette's. It works for me anyway!

Hello - Does anyone else get bouts of this? I have had supraverntricula tachycardia for about 12 years now. It comes and goes. I do have medication and have had blood tests to rule out possible causes. It started with the menopause and hasn't left.
I'm interested to hear of any methods people use to cope with it.
One of mine is to go to the piano and try to play a - to me - very difficult piece of music and concentrate bar by bar. Listening to a relaxation CD helps too.
All the best - Lupin
