How do you do that? Wee in a clear plastic pot?
Not that easy...how often are you supposed to check, anyway?
Shingles and pneumococcal vaccines side effects
Power flush of the central heating system
I'm fairly fit for 68 but for the past two or three months I've felt very stiff and achy in the mornings. It takes me about an hour to limber up. Just another part of the aging process I guess. Anyone else get this?

It was only on the days we were walking in the heat, at high altitudes and certainly not in everyday life!
I definitely don't have onset diabetes MargaretX, and normally I guess I drink about two/three litres a day?
I get migraines if I don't drink enough so I am always conscious of my fluid intake, unfortunately waiting until I feel thirsty is often too late.
Checking the colour of your urine is an easy way to check- should be pale straw colour (sorry if too much info!)
*loopylou+ 5-6 litres - about 10 pints is too much if you need that everyday. Sounds like onset diabetes. Drink when you feel thirsty, and if you are not eating too much salt then that's all you need.
Tea and coffee and milch count as liquids even though they are cheap.
Pleased I could help.
Power Pink, Subtle
Thanks for the link, pompa. I'm going for the Shewee Extreme, with funnel and extension pipe, in Power Pink.
I think the less mobile we get , the more stiff/achy we become, I have started taking a high dose Cod Liver Oil capsule (more like trying to swallow a bullet)! but then I have just finished three weeks solid decorating (stretching with the roller, ceilings/walls etc) when I actually look at the movement of rollering, it is almost like a form of exercise and I must say I think it has helped, I have also chosen certain tracks of music and put the CD on and dance and stretch (just remember to lock the door and close the curtains first
I'm trying to refrain from the Jammy Dodgers as I know I will eat the whole packet! Off for a power walk later..(may have to get the bus back)
Perhaps you should look at this old thread :- www.gransnet.com/forums/chat/a1201779-Shewee
The not needing a pee thing must take practice, loopylou. We were instructed to drink one and a half litres of water during a one hour walk near Ayres Rock. I had to resort to running off the path for a world record quick pee behind a rock, heart pounding away at the thought of the native critters eyeing up my bits. OH, ineffectually placed to hide my modesty from the other walkers, piped up with "Well there goes the fragile eco system".
Hooray I have taught myself how to get a jammy dodger in my post.
I like a nice glass of cool water with a slice of lemon. I chop up a whole lemon and keep the pieces in the freezer and pop one in the glass as you do an ice cube.
Only 6 I have been known to eat a whole bag of the big chocolate buttons.
Interesting points about drinking water. I never drink pure water only lots of tea and some coffee. I find coffee gives me an instant lift physically and mentally.
Last night I did drink a glass of water and I don't know if it was my imagination but I did feel better. I don't like water on its own for some reason and never have but I'm going to try and drink a glass a day and see what happens.
Regarding the point about milk. I have Goat's Milk and Rice Milk mostly. Wonder if that has the same effect as cows' milk.
Are tissue salts the same as Homeopathic remedies. I will have a look on line. I guess Holland and Barrett do them or maybe Tesco which is my nearest big supermarket.
Only 6?! That's real restraint in my eyes
I have already eaten 6 large chocolate buttons tonight Loopylou don't encourage me.
You have to eat at least three.....
How many electrolytes in a jammy dodger?
A quick diversion - how do you get jammy dodgers in these comments? I can't see any down below. And when I say down below I am not being cheeky.
loopylou
We made sure we ate plenty of electrolyte replacing foodstuff like bananas, carried electrolyte gels and ate a balanced diet. Over the 10 days we walked 125 miles and climbed the equivalent of Everest. No mean feat IMO, and no blisters either!
Wonderful holiday.
If it's hot and you drink as much as 5-6 litres of water a day then you may need to replace tissue salts as well, as all that perspiration replaced by plain water could deprive you of electrolytes.
There was a programme on tv recently presented by Dr Alice Roberts and they discovered that milk is the best fluid for rehydration.
I stopped taking all meds, and am still here.
Yes, my stiff joints(furtive look around for pompa) do still ache early in the mornings when it's cold, I have to make sure that I am warmly dressed all over, including socks, so that it doesn't matter if the bedclothes get stolen. We have also had to go back to heating the bedroom a bit, which I didn't really like but have got used to, and it does help.
Fish oil seems to help, and I do drink lots of fluids. I thought eating more protein should help to repair tissues, and it does seem to have helped, I don't feel worse. I lost some weight too, to decrease pressure on knees, hips, feet etc.
When I get up I wiggle feet and ankles, massage knees, flex muscles. Otherwise I find it hard to get down the stairs. Racing down to open the door to the postman is no longer an option. If my hip is feeling really bad I have to roll out of bed sideways and sort of flip onto my feet from my stomach, with arms braced on the mattress. Not very dignified! I think that when you come off painkillers, as I had to, you learn to live around your inabilities. You can still do things, but differently. I would love to be able to wear heels again, though.
If you are dehydrated you won't want a pee as the body's trying to rebalance the fluid levels.
When long distance walking in temps of 25 - 32° last summer I was drinking 2 - 3 litres easily during the walk yet rarely needed to find somewhere behind a bush.
Most days I probably drank 5 - 6 litres water + coffee etc with no problems at all.
Not drinking enough leads to urine infections and headaches too.
That makes a lot of sense. I can fish for five or six hours - mostly on my feet - and often don't think about drinking or eating anything unless DH is there and makes me. My thinking is if I don't have a lot to drink, I won't want to pee, and toilets are mostly either non existent or miles away from where I am! Standing up to your twiddly bits in cold water doesn't help either and peeing inside your waders is not a practice to be encouraged! I'll try drinking a pint of water before I get back into the car next time and see if it works (and hope I make it home!).
I think getting mildly dehydrated during exercise and not drinking enough water is one reason - swigging a pint of water afterwards seems to help. It helps to eliminate the lactic acid that builds up in muscles.
Might be worth trying?
most people here are talking about morning stiffness. I do get a bit of it but the worst for me is after exercise. I get most of my exercise by walking the dog and I can easily walk 3 miles but when I get home and sit down I can't get up again. Sometimes I feel crippled and I wonder if I am really doing myself any good or not.
Glass of milk and
then off to bed.
Now what was this thread about ? Oh yes, getting stiff overnight.
Good night fellow GNers.
