Cracked skin on feet

I bought a wonderful device a bit like a grater that the chiropodist showed me and once a week I grate off the hard skin. Go and see a chiropodist and let them take off the skin initially and treat the wounds, they will also advise on the best cream to use that sill suit your feet. I also slather my feet in cream at night and wear socks, that works a treat to keep the hard skin at bay.

PS I get chilblains on my toes, not on my heels.

Once the cracks are gone a little rub round the heels with a pumice stone whenever you wash your feet prevents hard skin building up. Sadly, I have discovered, this treatment doesn't prevent chilblains. Hey ho.

I moisturise my feet every night, the only way to prevent skin cracking is not to allow the skin to get thick and hard.

Whilst in Turkey I was told to put zinc cream on my cracked heel. Went to the chemist and all they had was very expensive face cream; had a thought - zinc and castor oil so went to the baby department and bought bottom cream; it worked a treat. Sudocrem or a cheaper version will hopefully help.

At my last annual chiropodist appointment I was told that the best moisturizer for feet is CCS Foot Cream which I had never heard of. I ordered it from Amazon and it is excellent. I have always moisturized my feet every night.

DH has/had an itchy patch on his foot for which he has tried just about everything without success. He asked to try my CCS Foot Cream - it didn't help the itch but he does have nice smooth feet. smile

I have been using Doublebase gel on my feet, though I originally got it to counteract the drying and thinning effect of steroids on my arms and legs. It has worked for both. Fleecy bedsocks ensure that it doesn't rub off on the bedding.

My dry cracked heels are much improved by a few weeks of slathering on some old (very old) zinc & castor oil cream and then putting on socks. I did this in mornings and at night with lovely bedsocks. I don't think the kind of cream mattered but putting the socks on made it soak in better and meant I could put it on thicker.

I'll try the athlete's foot stuff first and if that doesn't work I'll have to go to the doctors because Dr Google says it can be sign of other conditions such as diabetes and hypothyroidism. As I'm a BBW it could easily be one of those and I've been borderline hypothyroid for twenty plus years. My sister and my aunt both suffer from thyroid problems so it's in the family.

Like sherish, I developed painful, very dry and cracked hands and feet as a reaction to medication I was prescribed. See your gP vampirequeen

I am on chemotherapy and one of the side effects are hands and feet sore and cracked. The doctor gives me a cream called Diprobase which does help and may be worth mentioning to your doctor. There's nothing worse than not having comfy feet. Good luck!

It sounds like you have a bad attack of Athletes Foot, which can become infected vampirequeen, so please see your doctor or go to a pharmacist.
Steroid cream shouldn't be put on open wounds, you need specific treatment for AF.
I've had it so I know how uncomfortable it is.
It should clear up quickly once you apply the correct cream/sprays.

I also had this problem, when I was working and wearing the same shoes and tights all day in a warm environment.

The doctor just told me to put petroleum jelly on them!!

It didn't work, so I used Athletes foot cream ( after some internet research) it worked a treat! So I think the condition was caused by hot sweaty feet!
( or should that be 'glowing'?)

I then made sure that I gave my feet air as soon as I could. Now I walk around the house barefoot and no longer have a problem.

I hope it clears up soon, I know how sore it is. X

Please - go to the doctor. This is not something you have to put up with and it may be something you will be in an out with and is easy to solve but, having endured quite a few what I considered to be minor issues for far too long, when I went to the doctors I realised I need not have done so please, please, go.

The skin on the sole of my left foot is cracked with open wounds. It also itches, feels like it's burning or both at the same time. Sometimes I've had to resort to putting an ice pack on it to get some relief (the itching is worse at night and wakes me up). I use a good quality cracked skin cream at least twice a day and I've even used the steroid cream I have for my eczema. I'm loathe to bother the doctor with a sore foot but I'm running out of ideas.

Has anyone else had this problem?
